PARENTS: Do you cut your kids' hair yourself? Or entrust it to the professionals?
For the most part, I've been cutting my 2 boys' hair since they were babes. I'm not sure if the grief is worth saving the cost of taking them to a cheap barber, but I do it...

1. Professionals only for me
I have nightmarish memories of some of the bad haircuts I received at the hands of my mom. I can't do that to my boys.

My older son looks like a shaggy dog right now. I can't afford to get his hair cut right now, and rather than do it myself, I'll let him look like an unkempt mess.

5. I used to use a similar vacuum gadget...
...but it pulled the hair and usually left my youngest one in tears, so I got rid of it...

3. I usually take him to a salon
But we don't have the money for it right now, so I cut the front enough to keep it out of his eyes, and let the rest grow for now. Honestly, if I had a pair of clippers I'd probably just buzz him for the summer, but no such luck right now.

7. I only do buzz cuts.
My almost 12 year old son doesn't like buzz cuts anymore, so he gets his done by a professional now. My two younger boys still get buzzed.

8. I do it.
He's too squirmy for other people. Once I'm confident he'll sit reasonably still, I'll happily pay somebody else to do it.

9. I used to cut my entire family's hair
My 2 daughters, 1 son and my husband. I got pretty good at it, actually, as long as it was a basic cut.

10. I bring my 4 year old daughter to a professional, usually to correct her own haircut mistakes
mostly for trimming. However, she's cut her own hair twice, and we've had to bring her in for "corrections"

11. I do not cut my daughter's hair. No way, no how.
I don't even trust her to places like HairMasters or Great Clips. She gets her hair cut by the same woman who has been doing my hair for five years.

My husband has been cutting my son's hair for a couple of years (just basic buzz cuts), but at 5-1/2, my son has indicated a desire to grow his hair a little longer, so we'll see what happens.

it got thicker (the boy's hair) and I needed professional help!

13. One boy gets a professional cut, but I do the other.
The older boy has very straight hair that I managed to cut pretty well until the last year or so (he's ten), when it got too thick and the errors too noticeable.

The younger boy has wild thick curly hair that looks as crazy with a professional cut as with a knife and fork. We could buzz it down, but we all like it wild. :)
