I live in PA and want to go on vacation this summer somewhere I can drive
The maximum drive time would be 11 hours away.

Can any of you here suggest something to me???

1. What do you like to do?
We love the Outer Banks... that's probably in your distance range.

4. I lovvvvvve the Outer Banks. I've gone every year for the last 10 years
In fact, I just got back not 2 weeks ago. It was as fabulous as ever!!

I'm wondering if there are other vacation communities around the east coast that are as nice as the OBX. You can't beat the vacation rentals there- we always get a nice house with a pool and hot tub with all the bells and whistles. I live right outside of Philly, so the closest beach would be the Jersey shore but there is NOTHING comparable there!

I'd be interested in Beach or Lake vacations- I love the ammenities of the OBX but was thinking of trying something new.

8. I was going to suggest Maine as well. You can rent my in-laws house!
:) It's in Mt. Vernon, ME. Close to Augusta, a short drive to Portland and the shore areas. We go every summer.

3. Lake Michigan, go to the Michigan side and go to the beach.
Witness the sunsets over the water without going all the way to the West Coast.

13. I second the Michigan recommendation
Wander around the northern Lower Peninsula from Sleeping Bear Dunes through Petoskey and Harbor Springs, take the ferry over to Mackinac Island, then drive over the bridge and visit the Soo Locks.

You won't regret it!

Acadia National Park / Bar Harbor in Maine. It is about 11 hours away from Philadelphia.

It's beautiful here. Lots of scenic things to do, historical places to visit, lots of beaches, great food and entertainment, and maybe you can swing by and visit ME! LOL! :bounce:

19. We go to New England every summer, and it's an 8 hour flight from here
Actually, a one hour flight down to Paris and about seven and a half
hours to Boston from there. Then a 3 hour drive after spending the night
in Boston.

Is THAT dedication or not?

The place is very addictive. We can't drive unless we drive east to
Siberia and raft over the Bering Strait to Alaska and drive to New
England from there. Takes too much time, and unleaded gas in Eastern
Siberia just can't be found at every station..........

22. We're driving from Virginia to Mackinac Island this summer, then to Niagara Falls on the Canadian
side, then back to the Detroit area for a convention then back to Virginia. After that we plan to drive to Florida so I can look up my favorite high school teacher who I haven't seen in 30 years. Hope gas prices keep falling! If I were you, I would consider a trip to the DC area. Never a dull moment in our nation's capitol!
