How to get rid of 'Messenger' Spam?
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 01:10 PM by plurality
You know what I'm talking about. The Windows Messenger that pops up regardless of whether you're on the internet or not telling you there's a new form of spam and we're spaming you to buy our software to get rid of it. Which is more or less black mail. Does anyone know how to get rid of this shit without giving in to these black mailing mother-fuckers? If you have a solution and it's free, please tell me. And in the mean time. I looked at one of their websites and they have an email address. It's customerservice@messengerkiller.com. I recommend everyone send them MULTIPLE e-mails as often as you can telling them what scumbag assholes they are.

And to add a political aspect to this, part of their spam message says that there is no legislation regarding this, so we should tell our legislators to correct this. I really hate these bastards.

1. There is a way to get rid of that
My boyfriend figured out what program it was and removed it. I don't remember what the heck it's called though.

please let me know. i didn't think it was a program on the PC but a flaw in Windows. I thought my Spy-ware killer would have found it if it was a program, but either way I have to get rid of this, every morning there's about 30 of them that I have to close individually.

4. under windows XP or windows 2000
right click on "my computer" choose manage, Click on "Services and Applications" Click on "Services" In the right-hand pane, Navigaet to "Messenger" Double-Click it. In the field "start-Up Type" choose "disabled" or "manual" (Doesn't matter which). Close everything up and say goodbye to messenger spam.

8. Remember this:
I have seen spyware, XXX dialers and whatnot pushed down the Messenger pipe and installed on machines through ActiveX scripts. It's a gaping security hole and just as worthless as tits on a boar hog.

I use a program I found on http://www.webattack.com, in the freeware section called "Starter" to turn it off, off, off, off, off.

Just another tool by M$, for their "Special Marketing Partners".
