Somebody PLEASE tell my dog Vicki that we DON'T have to get up at 6 AM on the weekends...
:yoiks: She jumped on me at 6 AM on the dot both yesterday and today, ready to make her morning rounds outside. It's not about relieving herself---it's about barking at the neighbor's cats at 6 AM on the weekends. :P Oh, and it's partially about breakfast too.

I've told her, and my husband has told her, but she won't listen. It doesn't help that she's so damn cute.

1. My dogs believe that they are alarm clocks.
Time to get up is whenever they get up. They'll stare at my face until they detect any sign of waking up. If I blink or make sounds, they'll pounce.

Once, I woke up with three terriers in my face - staring. It was eerie.

2. They do the same thing to me!
 I think they're trying to transmit telepathic vibes..."Wake up, wake up, wake up!" I have two dogs, and both of them do that. The older one (Casey) doesn't do it as often any more, because she's discovered it's more fun to sleep in.

Three terriers at once? Geez, that's disturbing...

:hi:

3. They're conspiring against me.
They look like triplets, though they're not related. So it's like Yorkies of the Damned.

"You want to wake up. You want to get us wet food. You want to let us roll in mud like piggies."

:scared:

They're great communicators though. They'll work together to herd me towards their cookie jar or to the hooks where their leashes are. Anyone that says dogs can't communicate are not paying attention.

4. "Dumb" Animals
Only in the strictest sense. They can't speak English. Otherwise they communicate just fine.

OK.

Hey Vicki, you don't have to get up at 6 am on the weekends. OK? Don't anymore. Really. Sleep in.

There. Did it work?

"Blah, Vicki, blah blah blah....blah blah blah..."

What she thought was: "Hmmm.... I wonder if that squirrel is still outside?" :P

:hi: Thanks for trying!

9. My dogs wake up with the sun and get on either side of me
and stare. Finally one usually gets brave and swats me in the face with her paw. I have found that saying "Down, it's not time yet" works but I had to repeat it over and over until they finally got the idea. However, I love waking up to two happy pups who love life and love me unconditionally!

11. okay
If you tell my dog he doesn't have to rip the fence apart with his teeth and chase thunderstorms all over the county. He's been stoned on tranquilizers all morning and afternoon because we had storms last night and this morning. This morning I put him in with my dogs and he ripped two boards of the fence and took off. It's a miracle my dogs didn't get out...the only reason they didn't is because it was raining and they were in their dog houses. Luckily the tranquilizers kicked in before he got too far. Right now he's in another fence and I'm watching him grab the fencing with his teeth and pull as hard as he can to try to make a hole to get out. The vet says he's not supposed to have more than one pill (they are the size of baby aspirin but they totally knock him on his behind...he was drunker than a coot all day) so I can't give him any more.

They get these ideas in their heads and there is nothing short of therapy or a 'dog psychic' that will help, I think. :eyes: :hi:

16. Wow, idg...
 I had a dog a few years ago that lost her mind at thunderstorms too. Not quite like that, but bad enough. :pals:

I hope the storms stay away. :)

17. Geez...usually it's the other way around...
 Damn...my mother used to passive-aggressively try to wake my siblings and me up on the weekends by vacuuming around our beds at 6:30 AM on Saturdays. :grr: I could've slept until 10 AM, given the chance. :P Your daughter must be an early riser! I'll tell your daughter if you tell Vicki. :D
