2. Dump IE and use Mozilla
I haven't seen a good way to force new pop-up windows (requested or not) to open maximized. And yes, I do find that annoying.

So if you want more control of your browser, then go with mozilla. It runs well on both PC and Mac now. Its free and opensource. And most importantly it has some features that IE does not have...

- Tabbed browsing: This has made my browsing experience *alot* better across the board. Just set up your middle mouse to open a new tab and then middle-click on a link and it opens a new full sized window that you can close just by middle-clicking on the newly created tab associated with it. It definetly makes forum surfing alot more enjoyable. You'd be amazed at how much it speeds up your internet surfing. I was sceptical at first, but man, its awesome.

- Blocks pop-ups: Mozilla can be set to block unrequested pop-up windows (so you get only the ones you want). This feature just works. The only time I ever see any pop-up or pop-under adds is when I'm forced to use IE at someone elses computer. Plus, you don't have to rely on using google toolbar, as the pop-up blocking is integrated into Mozilla.

- Better security: Mozilla just is immune to most of the spyware and malware crap out there. I pretty much never get any spyware on my system. And I look regularly.

So go to www.mozilla.org and download and install version 1.6.... You'll be happy that you did.

PS - I say this all because I am a helpdesk manager at the U of Minnesota. I see lots of problems that can be traced directly back to IE, and lots of good reasons to use Mozilla.

4. Haha, Abaques beat me to it.
IE is such a terrible browser. Microsoft really needs to start recognizing certain standars. PNG Alpha transparency especially. Lousy Microsoft.

But Crazy Browzer is my favorite so far, it "piggybacks" offa IE

and I can run IE windows as well as Crazy Browser (a "tabbed" browser, so all my window "tabs" are right in front of me on the bottom of my top tool-bar) at the same time. Has a great customizable pop-up filter too !!

you can try Crazy Browser (also free) at http://www.crazybrowser.com/

worth the time to take the screenshot tour too http://www.crazybrowser.com/tour.htm

and now, I'm gonna download this Mozilla guy and give him a try !

oh - on edit: thot you'd wanna know

I'm runnin all this on a P1 - 233MMX with Windows 98SE with 128 megs ram on IE 6.0

- yuppers - she's "workin'" !!

7. Close all but one IE window...
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 06:51 PM by twistedliberal
Then don't "maximize" the window, but size it so that it looks maximized, then close it.

From now on, IE windows should open at that pseudo-maximized size. Until, of course, you resize one and close it last.

The registry will always save the last sized, properly closed window for each application (or is SUPPOSED to, anyway :eyes: )

Hope that helps!

9. RIght click on the Explorer's icon on your desktop, then
click on properties. In the 'run' box chose 'Maximized'. Click 'apply', then 'ok'.

That oughta do it.

14. This is what you do to the second window
place your cursor and manually resize (enlarge) the second window. The next time you click on a link, the second window should open to the size you last created. I should have added this process in my post. It's happened to me, when I've manually reduced a page so I could view two pages at a time. Hope this works for you.
:)

11. You can't
But what you CAN do is make your main IE window *almost* maximized, then every time you do "right click - open as new window" the new windows will all be that size.

Though even if you have the window maximized, the new windows should be showing up really, really close to maximized anyway, so there shouldn't be any problem.

13. Aye
Saw it after I posted.

And here I was, just a little while ago, bitchin' to myself about people who don't obviously read the thread and then post something that's been posted, answered, confirmed, and all done already. Then I go and do it - and bloody 3 hours after the fact, too.

Oops! But I blame it on the misleading subject line that said to close all but one IE window. I figured it wasn't a helpful post, so didn't read it. :-)
