At 4:30 AM this morning I learned there are no 24 pharmacies anywhere in my city.
Never mind there are half a million people within a half hour drive. Clearly this is not enough to support even one 24 hour pharmacy.
I wanted I could drive to Mass. Apparently there's one there.
I guess my screaming child will have to wait.

1. Well, crap. That sucks!!!
And I AM surprised that you don't have a 24 hour pharmacy in a city your size.

I know this isn't going to help right now (and I hope your child is going to be feeling better very soon), but maybe you could try to persuade Walgreen's to either come to your town, or, if they are already there, to stay open 24 hours a day. We have a number of them around here that are open 24 hours, and they have been a god-send for me on more than one occasion.

   to you and your child.

2. Thanks.
I plan to write some nasty letters to CVS and Rite aid. We used to have 24 hour pharmacies until these profit-centric stores moved in.

Still, only and hour more and the store opens. I'm really the most angry because it's my son and I hate to see him cry so much.
He's asleep now but it won't last.

3. Oh, I hear you. I have a daughter, and even though she is now a young
woman, I would still feel angry and hurt if she needed something to make her feel better or heal or whatever, and had to wait hours for it because there were no pharmacies open to help her.

4. Damn that sux!
I will never forget the time I was visiting Rochester, MN over a weekend, and I needed to get a prescription filled for my daughter.

Rochester, Minnesota is the home of the world famous Mayo Clinic. But there are zero 24 hour pharmacies within 50 miles of the place. I ended up driving back to the Twin Cities to get the script filled.

5. Are you kidding me? Nothing open in the home of the Mayo Clinic?
Now THAT really sucks! What the hell do these pharmacies think? That people only get sick between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm?

Oh shit. Never mind. Pharmacies caring about people? My bad.

6. I kid you not!
I was so upset. We were in Rochester for my son's baseball tournament, and I had to double back to the Twin Cities to get the prescription for asthma medication in the middle of the night. Needless to say, I was not amused in the least.

7. I would not be amused either.
And not having asthma medication can, as I know you know, can be a life or death situation.

I'm glad you were able to get the meds, but damn, what a pain in the ass.

10. ummm...it's a business.
and if a business felt that the population in the area could support a 24-hour pharmacy, they would build/open one.

there's nothing in the constitution about being entitled to 24-hour pharmacies within 5 minutes of your home...

12. Hello? Mayo Clinic
A helluvalot more than the people of Rochester go there for medical care. I would think a 24 hour pharmacy nearby would likely be VERY profitable.

Just sayin'.

18. apparently not...
usually hospitals have 24-hour pharmacies on-site. it's surprising that the mayo clinic doesn't have their own on-site pharmacy- but if they don't, it's obviously a business decision that they've made, for one reason or another.
but again- if the area could support a 24-hour pharmacy, i gotta believe that walgreens would set one up. with a drive-up window even.

8. The worst part of all that is it being your kid.
As the parent you can say 'screw it' and suffer. Can't do that to the kids though.

11. Another way Europe has the jump on us
Edited on Mon Jun-25-07 10:09 AM by FloridaJudy
When I lived there, every town had a "Farmacia de Guardia": the various pharmacies took turns staying open all night as a public service. It wouldn't be profitable for a single pharmacy to stay open twenty-four hours around the clock, but they rotated staying open all night so no one who needed medication had to suffer. Of course, this was Europe, where local businesses make a habit of meeting the needs of their customers. What little revenue they lose is made up for by the repeat business.

American corporations seem to have lost sight of this philosophy: treat your clients right, and they'll come back.

If this ever happens again, call the nearest hospital. Sometimes they can figure out a way to get you medication.

(edited because my Spanish spelling skills stink)

I've never seen him so cranky. Still, we went to the wading pool at the park, and for a little while he forgot to be mad.

24. Not sure.
He has a mild fever and clearly some pain.
We're going in to the doctor for a follow up tomorrow and hopefully things will be better then.
Evidently whatever it is, is going around the daycare.
Lots of extremely cranky babies who seem to be in pain.

22. We have two Walgreens and CVS with open within 3 miles of my house opened 24 hours a day.
I hope you son is feeling better soon.

You would think with a large population like ya'll have there would have been at least 2 drug stores open 24 hours or at least until midnight.

23. That just isn't right.
Call the TV consumer reporters. With "Sicko" about to be released nationally it's the right type of illustration of what's wrong with our friggin system.

Definitely find out about the hospitals. You have two good ones a stone's throw away after all.

Sorry little mainegreen is under the weather.
