Potato Queen Stripped Of Her Crown

As the 2007 Munger Potato Festival Potato Queen, Allison Nowicki wasn't planning to relinquish her sash and crown until next month, when the next festival queen is to be named.

But the Munger Potato Festival Queen Committee thought otherwise.

Nowicki, of Hampton Township, received a letter from the committee saying she did not attend enough events to remain the Potato Queen.

From the time the letter was dated on June 4, Nowicki had a little more than six weeks left as queen until the next queen was to be crowned at the 2007 Munger Potato Festival on July 26.

Nowicki, a sophomore at Lake Superior State University, said she was surprised when the committee decided she couldn't retain her title; she said she has missed one event during her reign.
