The title of this Rapture Ready thread suggests the poster was never told a few things.

If one thinks the end of the world will happen any time, what is the point of further reproduction. I just don't get it.

3. Hmm... This brings up a whole host of Rapture, what ifs...
What if a Woman is pregnant when the Rapture happens?
What if the Immaculately Conceived unborn child is going to Heaven and Mom is a left-behinder?
What if the Mother is to go and the baby, due to Original Sin, is to BURN?

So many questions!

4. I want to sign up so I can suggest that perhaps her marriage has no real value
and is not a REAL marriage and has no value to society since she can't have kids - not that I feel that way in the least, but I am sick of that argument being used against equal marriage rights. Don't believe me, check Yahoo.com's opinion page right now.

18. My best friends
are a married couple. After several miscarriages, her doctors reached the conclusion that would probably never be able to have children. That conclusion turned out to be right.

Her husband, a rabbi, was told by another (more orthodox) rabbi that he had to divorce his wife immediately because since she could never give him children, it was not a true marriage. My friend gave the rabbi until the count of three to leave the room. If he was still there after that, he was going to be punched back to whatever hole he crawled out of. The orthodox beat a hasty retreat.

Maybe by buddy should rent himself out to fight the good fight on behalf of childless marriage...

21. a great idea
I have a couple of friends who would like children but are unable to do so, and cannot afford (and do not want to do) fertility treatments/therapy, so have decided to not have children. My wife and I do not choose to have children. Some of the gay couples I know want children, and some do not.

I really, truly hate the argument that all of the above relationships are not valid to society. It's just an excuse for bigotry.

7. The only way to justify having sex....
is for procreation-besides they are innocent until under 10 or so and will get a free pass into heaven.

8. Yeah, but this poster wants to know how to optimize the odds.
It is not just a question of allowing for the possibility. Anyway, maybe it does not apply to the RR Fundies, but I was under the impression that Protestants generally have no objection to birth control when used within a marriage.

9. I was answering your question.....
Unless it was just rhetorical-and most Protestants (except the most extremely fundamental) don't object to birth control.

I'm not trying to be snide or anything. I just thought your reason would make more sense if they were Catholic.

20. I was reasoning....
from a very fundamentalist viewpoint. Children are viewed as innocents and should rapture occur-they will be taken up with Christ. Some say infant baptism forgives the original sin, some say when you reach on age of reason (surely some time when you can think but before puberty  )you can be baptized by accepting Christ, etc.

Frankly, and I don't wish for it...but if the RR rapture happens-it might just be worth it to stick around and see how these folks deal with their eh uh....rejection.

I read a great quote yesterday, Jesus came not to make us all Christians...but to make us more human. I could not get it out of my head. If that was the purpose-how far from the mark are some folks.

supermarket tabloids with screaming headlines claiming the world would end in three months, they still encouraging two-year subscriptions. (Some of my foster parents were devoted to the tabloids)

14. But you can't.
Both Fundy doctrine and the cannonical gospels themselves make it clear that salvation is an individual reward. I don't remember the chapter and verse, but I am reminded of when Jesus tells a mourner to follow him. The mourner says he needs to bury his father first. Jesus replies, "Let the dead bury their own dead." And of course the part where Jesus says he will turn family members against each other.

There are posters on RR who are afraid that their spouses or other relatives will go to hell because they are not saved. (I read RR so you don't have to!)

17. if you and your family are all good god-fearin' christians...
you'll meet up at the big meet-up in the sky.

and since the rapturists are having kids- i'm sure that they plan to raise them right so that they'll float up along with them and the other believers.

as far as following doctrine- hardly any professed christians actually do so- for instance, even billy graham recently spoke about his newly-deceased wife being in heaven with the lord- BUT- the bible says that when you die, you don't get resurrected or entered into the kingdom of heaven until after the apocolypse and second coming.

16. They see children as extensions of themselves
So the more children they have, the more of them get Raptured.
