And his very favorite place to burrow was in Mrs. Heebee's rose garden, which was near the bird bath.

One day, he was enjoying a particularly fantastic burrowing session, when he was abruptly pulled up from the cool moist soil by a robin's sharp beak. "Ahhhhggggghhhh! Please don't eat me!!!" BurtWorm cried.

The robin looked around to see where the noise was coming from. "Spare my life, and I'll return the favor one day!" Burt pleaded

The robin laughed, saying, "What the hell?!? A talking worm!?!" and almost choked on poor Burt, whose back end was beginning to slide down the bird's throat.

25. Fortunately, Burt knew the Heimlich maneuver...

so he placed his head on the bird's abdomen, and applied sharp thrusts to his diaphragm, which helped the bird dislodge Burt's butt from the back of his throat.

"Well, you saved my life, so I guess I need to spare yours in return," the robin said. Burt smiled, and thanked the bird, promising to always be around in case he ever found himself choking again.
