Anyone own Shag Carpeting back in the 70's?

Did your parents own it and if they did what color was it?
We had various colors of brown shag carpeting and for us kids it was alright. You could drop something and your parents wouldn't see it because it was hid.
My Hamster got lost one time in the Shag carpeting and it took us hours to find him.

It was here when we bought the house, what can I say? Red in the basement where the boys live (and that's why I'm not replacing it) and blue up in our bedroom, under the waterbed (which is why I'm not replacing THAT!) We got rid of the red in one room and the blue in another.

There was also a green-and-blue mix in the bathroom that was the first to go (at one time, the bath had shocking pink fluffy carpet--it also had blue and green abstract on silver wallpaper! We found traces when we were re-doing it. Oh, yeah, and mirror tiles on one wall.)

It is gone from the living room, dining room, one bedroom and the bathroom. Getting rid of the shag is about number five on my "to do" list. I have some bigger fish to fry first.

9. Gah!!! When I moved into this house...

It had bright red shag carpetting that stunk to high heaven. The day after I took up residency in this house and closed I ripped that nasty shit off the floor and went with bare wood until I could afford to have a nice new carpet put in.

I didn't find hardwood floors underneath and I was shocked because we were told that they were hard wood. Are you talking about the type of floors that are wood and you can see the nails in the floor. I would have done the same thing if i were you.

And alot of it. Short brown shag - wears like iron. Still looks like new. Hope it comes back into style if I have to sell the house. Replacing it would be horrendous cost just to look more current.

It was considered the epitome of impracticality. Sid Caesar even did a sketch about it on "Your Show of Shows." People were afraid to step on it, or were afraid they'd spill food on it. Strangely enough, though, it's survived and no one gives it much thought anymore.

Mom redid the attic with built in shelves and cupboards, shag carpeting, a water bed, and bean bag chairs. The cupboard doors were harvest gold, orange, and avocado. The shag had some kind of brownish background, then splashes of gold, orange, avocado, red, and some other colors. SO 70's!!!

I went back to that house about a year ago and the guy who owns it now has been doing some restoration work on the rest of it (1904 house with beautiful woodwork), but he says he's going to leave the attic just as it is as a cherished 1970s icon.

67. Dammit, I thought I was going to amaze everyone

with the fact that my dad - who sold carpet at the time - put shag carpet on walls in not one but two houses we lived in. In the first one, it was red with orange flecks and actual shag - though not super long - and the floor was dark olive green with flecks of light olive green (or dark loogie and light loogie, as my son would say). In the second house, it was more of a sculptured shag that matched the floor. Our cats literally climbed the walls.

Dad was also into coving. My brother had carpet halfway up his bedroom walls, and I had a "headboard" on the wall where my bed was. It, too, was sculptured - two shades of blue, white, and brown.

So there! I'll bet nobody else had a blue-and-white-and-brown shag-carpet headboard stuck to their bedroom wall.
