Poll question: Would You Make A Good President?
I don't care how old you are. Imagine YOU, right now, are the Democratic nominee.

How electable are you?

Would YOU carry the south? What would be your "home" state that you'd bring home to the party.

Candidate _______, can you win the presidency?

1. Good heavens, I wouldn't be president of this country for anything!
My ego may be too big, but it ain't THAT big!!! Nope. I have never had, don't have now, and never will have any desire to be president. The older I get and the more complex I know life and this world to be, the more strongly I feel about that.

2. If nominated I will not run; if elected I will not serve.
I don't want the job. I'm also ineligible for it, but that's beside the point. I wouldn't mind working in the White House, but not as the head dude.

4. Hmph. Fine. Then I'm not supporting you any more

I'm supporting Rabrrrrrr again, even if he does have that rather irresponsible "Burn the Troops" platform.

6. I thought I was running for King of the Universe....
...that job I want; just so I can smite people at my whim. President of the USA, small taters.

14. So long as you pass law stating all maple trees are government property
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 07:17 PM by Rabrrrrrr
and that only we can have the syrup, except as those who might petition the gov't., then I'm all for the waffling. And the pancaking especially.

I think you need a platform of bacon at every meal, too. Good thick, smoked bacon.

3. The subject line and the poll question are two different things

"electable" has nothing to do with being a good President.

7. Agreed - question/subject line confusion
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 07:01 PM by Rabrrrrrr
The question is confusing as to whether it's about being electable, or being a good president.

10. I couldn't even carry Santa Cruz, California.
Or Boulder, Colorado.

Or West LA.

Of course, the other candidates would look good by comparing themselves to me. I could help in that way! :-)

I don't know if America is ready for a tall, gay Hispanic guy as President, or not, but I know i could make that mental midget look like the chimp he is in a debate! :P

19. I'm too plain looking to be elected,
and I'm not qualified because I'm not a lawyer, I don't
belong to the Masons or other fraternal orders, I don't belong
to the Committee on Foreign Relations or the Trilateral Commission.

I don't belong to the Bohemian Grove, or the Rosicrucians.

I don't come from a wealthy family and I have no desire for
wealth and power.

I believe that power always corrupts, and the ultimate evil is
the belief that "the ends justifies the means".

If I was in politics, I wouldn't last very long.

22. Nope
I might be able to win in England or Germany, as I am an rather left wing, being closer to the European Social Democrats to any party in the U.S. as I think even the Greens and the Vermont Progressive Party are a bit too conservative.

But everyone would have Health Insurance, Free college, Long Term Unemployment Insurance, not ending until a person found a new job, with assistance in relocating people to new jobs, as well as retraining in oversaturated field of employment, and do so limiting budget deficits to no more than 3.5 percent of GDP during any fiscal year, and only when absolutely necessary.

Europe can do this and still manage to be lending the United States a billion dollars a day to keep our government running.

I would tax the hell out of the rich, and they would be very glad to accept 65 percent taxes, or face larger taxation if they complained too much about it.

For government to control special interests, rather than special interests to control government, it must be much larger than the interests it is trying to control, much larger than the multinationals.

Only three candidates have suggested such sweeping controls over special interests and taxation and those are Kucinich, Kerry, and Edwards. Add these three are the only ones who have consistantly tried to use their positions in Congress to control such special interests.

Most of the other candidates talk the talk, but have done very little while they had the power to do so, to control special interests and big business, or have never been in the position to do so.

23. I would at least give Bush a hell of a fight.
I would take Clark and Kerry's credentials, Edwards' optimism and Dean's spunk to go strike at the heart of Bush.
