1780: New York Harbor freezes solid during NYC's coldest day on record (-16°F), & will stay that way for next month.


1899: Mrs. Bogart's son is born today; Mom doesn't know that other kids will beat the tar out of him because of his funny first name: Humphrey.


1968: North Korea seizes USS Pueblo, caught in Korean waters, & arrests 83 Americans as spies.


1971: Coldest day ever (ever!) in U.S. is in Prospect Creek, Arkansas, at -80°F.


1991: Like, total déjà vu! President George Bush (I, not II) proposes removal of Saddam Hussein from power.
