Help! My kid's a fascist!

Ok, so it's a hypothetical scenario. But as an expectant father the thought occurred to me:

"What if he/she turns out to be a raving fascist. Or what if he she despises all the principles I hold dear."

I have a 9 year old daughter. I think it's fun to watch the ways her mom and I shape her mind and her belief structure. At 9 years old, you begin to realize the things that are important to you that extend beyond your toy collection. The things that are important to her are all the right things.

My biggest fear is that she marries some freeper then becomes one herself.

you provide your child with the tools to learn to think for his or herself, that includes plenty of reading matter and intelligent discussion in the home.

Those who think for themselves will turn out ok. It's such a rare attribute though, your child will probably not win any popularity contests.

they learn that you´re a hypocrite. And as I don´t think you are: don´t be afraid.
Children ALWAYS learn their first social skills from their parents.
Be there for your children, play with them and strengthen them, love them and NEVER EVER give a promise that you cannot keep.
I think, then your child will be a nice person. Only persons with a lack of selfconfidence and/ or a very unhappy childhood are at risk to really hate others.

14. As the mother of 4 let me tell you

there are two words you can teach your child, one is love the other is hate (I saw that on a commercial, it is so true!) We have 4 boys and they are very different and the first thing we have done is get them to appreciate the differences within each other and as they are in grade school, they are showing that they appreciate the differences in others at school.

You have to let your child be themself and guide them. They will not always make the choices you want them to make or have the beliefs that you want them to have but sometimes you have to respect that. You can't embrace difference (leading them to the democratic path) and get mad if they aren't like you.

The best thing you can do as a parent is have the respect of your children. If they respect you, they won't want to intentionally hurt you. I know that sounds silly but it is true
