11-year-old girl gives birth in Ukraine

Jan. 23, 2004 | KIEV, Ukraine (AP) -- An 11-year-old girl has given birth to a healthy baby boy, becoming Ukraine's youngest mother on record, a newspaper reported Thursday.


The family of the sixth-grader refused to stop the pregnancy and ``put everything in the hands of fate,'' Gryshchenko was quoted as saying.


The newborn's alleged father is a 26-year-old neighbor who fled fearing criminal charges when he learned of the girl's pregnancy, Fakty said. If convicted of having sexual relations with a minor, he faces a maximum prison sentence of three years.

5. I have a friend who became pregnant at 12...

she had a horrible family life and found a 20 year old guy to be her father figure. She became pregnant by him.

Her mother took her in to have the abortion. Her life would have gone in a completely different direction if she would have had the baby.

Irony of it? She is now pro-life. :shrug:

Roe v. Wade gave women in the United States OPTIONS. Real options. It is so sad to read a story like this on the 31st anniversary of the most treasured piece of legislation regarding women's rights.
