Question about making a website w/Frontpage

If you make a website using Frontpage, can someone else tell by looking at the properties that you made it using Frontpage or does it look the same as if you hade made it by scratch using HTML? Anyone know?

1. we can tell, you can delete some header information

after the fact, but the bazillion tags it uses will give you away with the right scrutiny

that says it has been generated by Front page - like this:

But I don't know how many people could. There's also information near the top of the page that FrontPage generates automatically. You could always remove that which would disguise it a little. Curious, why?

5. Thanks for the info

I'm doing a project for school where I have to make a website using HTML and it's almost late and I'm having a hard enough time just thinking about what to make my pg about. So, I was thinking about just making it using Frontpage, but I guess my teacher would be able to tell.

So, I guess I better just make it the way I'm supposed to. :)

view source, and all the bloody info is there. You can use textpad to edit it out, if you like. I won't gripe too much at you for using FP - someone will likely be along any minute now to do that. I will say that FP pages are loaded with unnecessary code and "weight" - not ot mention that FP pages are so predictable in format that you often don't need to go to the view sources to know its FP.

I started out with FrontPage but upgraded to Dreamweaver. One of the things that pissed me off about FrontPage is that it insists on inserting these stupid ads into your head section.

I opened up FrontPage just now, created a new page, and then checked the code. Here it is:

Do you see the two references to Microsoft and FrontPage? I'm not interested in giving Microsoft free advertising, especially when I hate Bill Gates' guts.

You can delete these times, but, if I remember correctly, FrontPage has a habit of reinserting them. Typical Bill Gates - use every trick in the book to shove his stupid ads in your face.

FrontPage is also famous for producing "bloated code." In other words, it produces more html than you need. I believe it is also known for producing incorrect code.

I think Dreamweaver also has a reputation for producing bloated code, though it isn't as bad as FrontPage. At any rate, I moved all my websites to a Linux/Apache server (the standard) and am now upgrading all my FrontPage websites with Dreamweaver and cascading style sheets. The difference is unbelievable.

Of course, you can use style sheets with FrontPage, too. They'll help you get rid of code bloat. Also, see if you can use the search and replace function to get rid of those stupid Microsoft ads.

When you move up to Dreamweaver, you can link to my anti-Microsoft website at http://www.freedomware.us/ (But don't throw FrontPage in the garbage; it makes a great Dreamweaver accessory!)

....because it makes the worst mess you ever saw in the actual code.

Learning html is just about as easy as learning that frontpage crap, and you'll be able to actually eidt and fix your pages.

Doing a simple page isn't that hard with straight HTML. You can just do a simple page in Notepad if you want.
