Good place to live with a great place to run?

Any suggestions? I'm in Chicago with our 18 mile lakefront trail so I must admit I'm spoiled. The problem is its so expensive to live here and I can't stand the freezing cold weather anymore
Any one suggest a town with a nice long trail - not so much in the woods but more public - like if you keeled over - they could find you before a day or so elapsed?

P.S. No high elevations like Colorado as we are talking a little heart condition here. Thanks.

1. Bismarck ND

Many many miles of trails. Down along the river, over looking the river. Way up north to way south.

2. maybe Boise, Idaho?`

A few family members live there, they're all pretty liberal but aren't terribly politically active by nature so the conservative bent of the city doesn't bother them (too much). Boise's got a trail alongside the Snake River. It gets cold there in the winter, but not nearly as cold as Chicago (like in the 20s and 30s with much less wind than Chicago's got); the summers are divine and dry and I don't think you'd have any probs with the elevation.

It's a rapidly growing area, though, and the growth is not at all "smart" - lots of suburban hell homes and strip malls.

Check college towns in the south/southwest, esp. colleges with strong track teams?

4. Eugene, Oregon

Very liberal city with a mild climate and a real center for running: home of Steve Prefontaine, Alberto Salazar, and Mary Decker Slaney.

5. Boston, but it's more expensive than Chicago

(but not as cold, current record-setting cold winter excluded).

We have the Charles River, Arboretum, Fresh Pond (Cambridge) and other nice places to run.

There is a bike path that is also a jogging trail that goes out to the burbs. Very pretty.

6. Southern California...Santa Monica Venice Beach...

But then, forget I said that...It's pretty darned expensive...I'd check South...perhaps Raleigh, NC or somwhere near Myrtle Beach.

8. Washington DC.

The weather's more moderate, and while it's not less expensive, the network of viable trails goes a bit further into less expensive areas.

9. Long Beach CA

not quite as expensive as the west L.A. area but just as nice.

A great bike running path along the beach and lots of other close places.
