The winner of tonight's "Hoosier Millionaire" game show was killed after being hit by a pickup truck just hours after the show's taping, authorities said Friday.
Carl D. Atwood, 73, won $57,000 on the show after he traveled to Indianapolis on Thursday for a taping of the statewide television game show, Hoosier Lottery Director Jack Ross said.
After the two-hour taping, which will air tonight , Atwood returned to his hometown of Elwood, Ind., with the check, Ross said.
About 7 p.m., Atwood was a block from his home and crossing Main Street -- on his way to the grocery store where he had purchased the winning ticket-- when a black pickup truck rounded a corner and struck him, said Elwood Police Chief Toby R. Barker.
