Edwards On Real Time -- Helllooo Gorgeous!

Now I KNOW I'm gonna get slammed for this observation but can we face facts?

Fact is, ain't nothing wrong with a little Kennedy/Clinton-esque mojo, BABY! This guy is seething with vital hormonal secretions in the good old Dem tradition, ha! That's from an old Dan Akroid SNL skit, I think it was about Carter...?

Anyway...he says he wants to run for Pres and not Veep -- well, they all say that. One way or another, we need this guy on the ticket. He's swoon-a-riffic!

Bill Maher cracked me up in his end comments about Dean. He said "Good news: you're not "That Angry Guy" anymore. Bad news: YOU'RE THAT CREEPY GUY NOW! You're the uncle that everyone tries to avoid at the Christmas dinner."

Oh dear. I DO feel bad for Dean, and I also feel grateful, he fired up a lot of people and I hope they will do as he says he will, and support the Dem candidate.

But there's no underestimating the value of just being able to work a room and play to a camera -- it's a talent, Clinton had it and Edwards sure has it too!

3. Edwards is wasted anywhere but the top of the ticket

He's a gamble on greatness and the only one of our candidates with enough teflon -- looks, charisma, personality -- to actually spark, pull and win in '04. It absolutely kills me that so many on DU, and the Democratic party in general, have ignorantly handicapped that our best hope is some type of military man or military background to deflect the national security concerns. That means zilch to critical swing and independent voters when the messenger is otherwise blase.

Of course, I get assailed on issue-idiocy GD 2004 whenever I emphasize that, or mention Edwards' obvious assets as our best hope. My sister had never even registered to vote at age 27, but once I attached a picture of Edwards to an email she gushed over him and is now a supporter. And registered.

Frankly, we need about 1000 real-world threads like this per day.

Sad, isn't it, that looks play a part in this? Not a slam against your sister but just an observation.

Yeah, I think Edwards is good looking and I also think he'd be good on the ticket but the two are not mutually inclusive. He'd make a great Veep right now and would bring in the southern vote. (Another issue that's looked at, like appearancces.)

That being said, I think he was terrific on Bill Maher last night!

5. Not sad when looks are in OUR potential favor

I'll embrace any available advantage, considering what 4 more years of this regime will inflict. And Edwards has the talent and passion to match the genes.

To be fair to my sister, she gushed then and supports now, many months later. Admittedly after plenty of email prompting from big bro.

Frankly, I dispute your conventional-wisdom handicapping also. My belief is a VP can harm, but does little good. The possible and intriguing exception this year (and hindsight 2000) is Bob Graham in Florida, a very well respected favorite son who was both a multi-term governor and senator. I believe an Edwards/Graham ticket MIGHT carry critical Florida, but Kerry/Graham would be routinely rejected.

7. Not just his looks, but his manner

Hey,

Last night I heard a lady in NH being interviewed on NPR and she had an intriguing comment about shifting from Dean to Edwards (a shift I'm in the process of making, I think.) She said that Dean had done a great service to the party, when the rest of the Dems were afraid to say anything against Bush, and deserves everyone's gratitude for his boldness. She also said as a New Englander she liked his direct perhaps abrupt manner. But then she said that she didn't think his style played well in the rest of the country, and she had lived in NC for a while and learned that people there have high standards of graciousness, charm, etc. Then went on to say that Edwards's persona was much more appealing (didn't mention looks) than any of the others, and she was switching to him because she thought he was the most electable.

Which mirrored my recent thoughts since last Monday.
