24. I don't like cucumber salad that much, only it it is made with rice
vinegar, sind of sweet, kind of sour. The rice vinegar makes the cucumber salad.

16. Water chestnuts are weird.
They stay crunchy when no other veggie will. It's unnatural.

I made it one way this weekend with diced onions, tomatoes, mayo, and sliced cucumbers which was good. I need to get a veggie slicer so I can slice the cucumbers paper thin and put vinegar, sugar, and onions all together. Let that sit overnight in the fridge and mmmmmmmmm!

34. The German version
GURKENSALAT

3 or more lg. cukes
Salt
1 sm. onion, sliced thin
2/3 c. cider vinegar
2 tbsp. oil
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. water
1/2 tsp. paprika
Salt and pepper

Slice cukes very thin (on grater). Sprinkle with salt and let sit at room temperature for 1 hour. Drain off liquid. Combine remaining ingredients with cukes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Chill.



I have enjoyed this recipe since I was 12. Yum.........
