What parts of suburban Houston are fit for habitation by a secular jew from California?
I have been told to expect a very attractive job offer this week from a company in Houston. For the money they are offering and for the promise in writing that I won't have to travel more than two weeks a year (I have been in Canada most of the last year) I think I can manage Houston.

Any thoughts?

I have only been to Houston a few times and I really know nothing of the area, I have been seeing some really nice and affordable houses on real estate websites for a fraction of what my current house would sell for, but the locations mean piss nothing to me. Next door to a mega-church is not what I am looking for, neither is next door to a meth lab. Next door to Tom Delay isn't really ideal either.

With the exodus from California and the North East are there any areas that are significantly made up of transplants from elsewhere?

1. Fair warning.
Do not buy a townhouse in Houston, Texas.

They are crap.

The inner loop is very popular, my neighborhood is one of the fastest growing in Houston.

Again do not buy a townhouse, the lumber they are made of is so bad I wouldn't build a dog house out of it.

Also the heat is really bad in the summer, and you will need a car with AC.

You might like the Montrose area of Houston.
