How is it that in 2007
a SOFTWARE company can't figure out to strip trailing spaces off a credit card #?

I had to update my Norton, so put in all the info and click Process.

Says my cc card number is wrong.

Now, the field won't accept spaces, dashes, etc. (which is also dumb - it's not hard to parse a string). But I pasted the number in and it had a trailing space. duh.

so I go back and figure it out. Of course, when you go back, somehow it resets your state. Nothing else. Or so I thought.

So I try again, and it asks me to put in a state.

OK... do that.

Process.

Credit card declined. Contact your bank.

WHAT?!!

Hit back....

When it couldn't strip out the space, it reset the state, AND the expiration date.

This is 2007!!!! I was writing code to parse fields like this back in 1984. It just astounds me that simple rules for doing this haven't been adopted universally.

2. On the antivirus topic, I'd recommend Avast! It's free and good.

We use AVG Free. The updates and scans happen like clockwork and you never hear from them.

4. What's even better is when some two-bit online retailer...
...pulls the kind of crap you describe, and then your two-bit credit card company suspends your card, ostensibly to prevent fraud. Do they call you to inform you of this fact on the phone number they happily use at all hours to try sell you crap? They do not. Do they write to you at the address they happily send their junkmail to? They do not. Do they send an email to the box they incessantly spam you at about every pathetic offer they have? They do not. Instead, they wait until you're at the front of a checkout line, and let the cashier inform you your card is declined. Then you stand there for twenty minutes, while fifty people behind you wish you every kind of slow death, before reactivating your card without so much as an apology.

Screw you MBNA, and every shitty company like you!
