We used to use it as a pot herb like mustards or collards, but this site talks of its herbal properties.

I used to LOVE it, now, it only can be fried with unsalted butter very crisp, scrambled eggs and with small slices of apple to accompany it.

If it isn't that way, I won't touch it.

Scrapple is a savory mush in which cornmeal and flour, often buckwheat flour, are simmered with pork scraps and trimmings, then formed into a loaf. Small scraps of meat left over from butchering, too small to be used or sold elsewhere, were made into scrapple to avoid waste, a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition.

Scrapple is arguably the first pork food invented in America. The culinary ancestor of scrapple was the Low German dish called Panhas, which was adapted to make use of locally available ingredients. The first recipes were created by German colonists, who settled near Philadelphia and Chester County, Pennsylvania in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Scrapple is strongly associated with Philadelphia and neighboring eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware. Among the Pennsylvania Deutsch and in Appalachia, scrapple is known as pawn haas or pon haus, a term hailing back to the old German dish. It can be found in most supermarkets throughout this region in both fresh and frozen refrigerated cases. It can sometimes be found in cities farther from this area, even as far away as Los Angeles, in frozen form.




The Apple Scrapple Festivals are where it's at, been to ones in DE, MD & VA, go figure

Avocados used to be on my not eat list, they aren't so bad, I had to get used to the filmy, greasy feel in my mouth with avocados, but if they are mixed, I can eat them.

and yes, Iron Chef Japan did angler fish.

i'd rather see things that many usa homes regularly come across. that's why i think Hamburger is a great suggestion for the new Iron Chef. if i wanted to be difficult i'd suggest Cheez Wiz, Pop Tarts, or Marshmallow Cream. even Peanut Butter, Pimento Olives, and American Cheese would be learning opportunities.

if i wanted them to be blown away with a miserable ingredient i'd probably go with tripe. it's either a love it or hate it ingredient. and no matter how much you dress it up, it's still tripe. but they probably already did that.

bitter melon probably follows the same course.

durian would be a challenge, too.

also balut. what is balut you ask? "balut (Tr?ng v?t l?n or H?t v?t l?n in Vietnamese, Pong tea khon in Cambodian) is a fertilized duck egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell."


or cockroaches. they're edible too, and used in some cuisines, so i'd be amazed to see what sort of delicacies can be made out of cockroaches. who knows, one dish might unseat escargo for popularity in fancy restaurants.
