How can I maximize my winnings playing roulette? I've never played it before, I'm strictly a slots guy.

But I heard it's like 2-1 odds for colors and 35-1 for getting the specific number right.

Anyone have a strategy for this game?

Bet on colors or odd/evens. If you put $5 on red/black odd/even you will win at least twice a roll. Getting the numbers correct is tough but I like to stick to one number. It has to come out sometime right? And you don't want to switch the number b/c what if it came out and you didn't bet it. Hope this helps.

It's been a while since I have been to AC and played roulette but you can also bet on four numbers, two numbers, or a series of twelve numbers in addition to single numbers and colors.

I've heard a lot of people claim that blackjack can be beaten, but I've never seen anyone actually do it over the long haul. In fact, the only game I've ever seen anyone actually make a long-term living at is poker (and even then, the skill, discipline and limits required are well out of most casual players' league). FWIW, anyway.

First off, realize that every single table-game the house offers is, by definition, a "house game" -- ie: the house has the advantage. If the house *didn't* have an advantage, it would be a money-loser for them and, hence, they wouldn't offer it.

In Roulette, for example, there are 38 spaces on the wheel (18 red, 18 black and 2 green ('0' and '00')). So, the odds of the ball landing in any particular space are 37-to-1 against. The house pays 35-to-1 for a single-number bet -- and again, on average, you can expect to hit your number once for every 38 spins of the wheel. So, on a $1 bet, this means that you'll lose $1 on 37 of your 38 spins, and you'll win $35 on 1 of your 38 spins. So, on average, every 38 spins you'll win $35 and lose $37, for a net loss of $2 to the house. Hence, the term "house game" :)

Of course, short-term luck does play a role. You may get lucky (ie: lose less than $2 per 38 spins). You are also equally likely to get unlucky (ie: lose more than $2 per 38 spins). In the long run, these variations will balance out, and the house will make its expected return (ie: $2 per 38 spins).

Betting "$1 on red" is pretty much the same game. Out of every 38 spins, you'll win $1 18 times (there are 18 red spaces on the wheel), and you'll lose $1 20 times (there are 18 black spaces plus 2 green spaces on the wheel, for a total of 20). So, for every 38 spins, you'll have the same result as with single-number betting (ie: a loss of $2 per 38 spins).

"split bets" pay 17-to-1 (IIRC), and cover 2 numbers. Using the same process as above, you can expect, on average, to lose $2 per 38 spins (2 hits (+$34) and 36 misses (-$36)).

"Corner bets" pay 8-to-1 and cover 4 numbers. The expected loss here is $2 per 38 spins (4 hits (+$32) and 34 misses (-$34)).

Basically, every bet you can make at Roullette is a losing bet -- which, of course, is why the house offers it :)

If you find that you're beating it in the short run : WALK AWAY WITH YOUR MONEY! Because, if you stick around, the odds are that those winnings aren't going to stay with you for very long.

15. Best advice on roulette?

Don't play. It's a house game. The 35 to 1 payout is on a 37 to 1 wager. The even money bet is on a 20 to 18 wager. The 2 to 1 payouts are on 13 to 6 wagers.

Odds at roulette are better in Europe, but still suck. The have only one zero instead of the American zero and double zero. Thje zeros are green in both games.

Best odds in the house? Blackjack - if played correctly. You will walk away .4% of your total wagers ahead if you play pefectly for about 10,000 hands - unless you hit a lucky streak. The craps pass line. Based on 10,000 rolls, you'll get paid true odds, less the house edge which varies dependent on the amount of your wager, and walk away with about the same percentage.

17. Look for a wheel...

With only one house number. The house number will be in a green box, and is usually a zero. Some wheels have two house numbers which really screw up your odds. If by some miracle you find a casino with a roulette wheel that has no house numbers PLAY IT!

If at all possible stay away from this sort of wheel. The house has a huge advantage on this wheel.

"Slow and steady wins the race," so when I play I usually only do odd/even or red/black. But that's just me. I've seen players who basically cover the board with chips.

One last bit of information: the electronic counter that shows what the last number the ball landed on is NOT an indicator of what number/color is likely to hit next. It's a myth. Just because red came up ten times in a row does not mean black is coming up next.

18. Video poker

Now I watch the Travel Channel a lot, especially when it's a feature on Las Vegas, and every Vegas show talks about how video poker is the best machine game to play. The trick is to look at the payout schedule. You're supposed to play the machine with the highest payout for a flush and full house. I think the ideal is 6 for a flush and 8 for a full house.
