Monday's Child

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

Okay, who wrote this - and why?

I must've been born on two days simaultaneously: Thursday and Sunday. I have far to go, yet I'm bonny and blithe and good and gay. And I'm good at being gay too! :P

But I'm pretty sure it's a couple hundred years old, or at least as old as most nursery rhymes.

on edit: but then, I've been wrong before, and who knows, might have been Robert Frost or ee cummings for all I know. But I think i've heard this is rather old kind of "old wives tale" stuff./

2. A Mother Goose rhyme,
Which leads to the next question: "WHO the hell was Mother Goose"?
