Anyone else ever drive a Corvair?
My friend in H.S. owned a 1962 Corvair that I would drive sometimes, they did have a tendency to want to whip right around IMO.

Some of the Monza's were interesting, like the Spyder SS.

1. Live rear axle.
Made the car fun to drive, but twitchy as hell. If you weren't paying attention, you'd be facing the opposite direction in a hurry.

A buddy of mine used to own one. We'd take it out to the hills and drive all the curvy roads.

4. We drove all over Wisconsin in it,
it was not a good winter rear-engine car like the Volkswagen Beetle.

...he didn't drive it much on rainy days. :D

He had his Corolla for that.

9. WOW!
I was in a Chevelle a long time ago that rolled over when a friend fucked-up, nothing major though, we righted it and drove away.

2. Same scenario as you, Bob.
Friend had a '62 in High School. I remember driving it, but I don't remember how it handled. When you're 16 or 17, all cars feel the same. they feel like FREEDOM!

3. Hate to burst your image but my grandma loved 'em.
Bought them until they were no longer made. Hated Nader. :-)

a friend of mines dad
collected used corvairs and he must of had ten or 15 of them. since the engines lasted about 60 thousand miles he went thru them pretty fast- he used the engines to build a retaining wall in his back yard. the later models were not bad.

10. I learned how to shift on one
My father's Monza Spyder. The thing was hard as hell to shift, as I recall.

15. I want a Corvair fun car!
They're still relatively inexpensive to purchase, and parts are everywhere.

You've got the right idea. Now...to start saving up my money...

16. We had one as newlyweds in college. Would start out on a long
trip and make it 2 blocks. Good thing about it was not too far to walk home.
