Gotta love the AFA. I bet I spent DAYS DUing their gay marriage poll (you know, they results they dumped because it didnt go their way) but they are still kind enough to e mail me and thank me for my support...I put my favorite parts in bold.
Dear (Cannikin),
Your emails to the FCC Commissioners resulted in a "domino-effect" of actions which has culminated in a clear victory for decency on the airwaves.
The FCC has levied a $755,000 fine against Clear Channel Communications for a sexually explicit radio show, the second-highest fine ever proposed!
Help AFA continue its fight for decency on the airwaves by making a generous contribution.
(cannikin), AFA online activists like you sent over 1.75 million emails and letters to the FCC commissioners. With that avalanche of response, they could no longer ignore the issue.
Here's how the dominoes fell:
First, we were invited to meet with Commissioner Michael Copps regarding the 'F-word' issue.
Following that meeting, FCC Chairman Michael Powell recommended that their previous ruling be rescinded, and use of the 'F-word' be banned on public airwaves. (A major victory!)
Next, both the House and Senate passed resolutions blasting the FCC over its lax indecency enforcement.
Michigan Congressman Fred Upton then introduced the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act (H.R. 3717) that would increase fines for broadcast indecency tenfold. Calif. Congressman Doug Ose introduced the Clean Airwaves Act (H.R. 3687) spelling out eight words that would lead to sanctions for the stations or networks broadcasting them
Finally, FCC Chairman Powell urged that penalties be increased for indecent programming, and levied the fine against Clear Channel, along with a fine against San Francisco TV station KRON for broadcasting indecent material on its morning news program. (Cannikin), all this started because AFA on-line activists such as you cared enough to get involved! However, this success has not come without cost.
Due to the extremely high volume of traffic we've generated through their system, the company we use to email the FCC commissioners, Congressional representatives, and others has raised our rates. We must now raise $40,000.00 to continue using this vital technology tool.
Will you help us by giving a generous donation to offset this cost? I would hate to see us lose future battles - battles we could otherwise win - simply because we can't afford the technology needed to do so. We have a powerful tool available to us, and we must continue to use it.
Your $25, $50, or $100 donation will help us reach our goal of $40,000 and guarantee that we continue taking advantage of the Internet to get our message across.
If you are a regular monthly donor, I thank you for standing with us. If you have not given before, please consider supporting this effort. Give the best gift you can today so we may continue reporting good news in the fight for the family.
As always, thank you for standing up for the family.
Take Action Sincerely,
Don
