XP experts unite. Need to change a name

I changed the PC's name but still the files are stored under
C:\Documents and Settings\myname\

is there a way to change myname to something else?

I'm guessing it's the same for both, though. You have to change the username on the control panel.

Open it up, open User Accounts, and do it there. You'll be able to change security settings, picture, name, etc.

To be safe, I WOULD NOT change the folder name under Docs and Settings. It may fcuk things up if you do it that way :P

4. try this

log in as the user with the changed name. Create a new file of any type-- text file, word doc, whatever. Save it in your "My Documents" folder.

Now, log out, and log back in as an Administrator (either the Admin account, or as somebody who has Admin permissions). Then browse to C:\Documents and Settings and see if there's a folder for the new username.

Is it there?

Start/Settings/Control Panel/user accounts

Now create your new user account.

When it's done you'll have the new account name under "documents and settings" and you can simply copy over your data from the old account.

Changing the name of your computer really only matters if you're on a shared network.

7. Try this:

XTeq XSetup. It's a free program. Remember that XTeq changes things right in the registry and it offers a lot of things to change. Do not, and I repeat DO NOT get stupid with it, or you will be finding yourself rolling back. Before you change ANYTHING, do a registry backup and give it a name you can easily remember.

Having said that, do read the Lockergnome Tricks & Tips. You can use XTeq to get some real performance gains out of XP.
