I'm somewhat of a peanut butter connoiseur (sp?).

And I"m not particularly brand-conscious when it comes to most things but peanut butter is too damn important not to get the best.

30. me too
Used to be Skippy, but now Jif is the best.

"Natural" peanut butter has never done it for me. Too greasy.

I can tell a store brand at 50 paces. Yuck.

Yup, it's Jif.

3. Natural peanut butter rules
No yucky hydrogenated fats or transfatty acids. They kill your ateries because they aren't natural fats.

21. Laura Scudders Natural is the bomb!
After you stir it up and reintroduce the oil to the peanuts. Its a messy chore but well worth it.

Oh, and I like the Chunky variety mysely.

brand is.

At some point you have to trust in the cooking process and your immune system.

11. I concur.
Nothing beats JIF. Although luckily my local store brand comes pretty close. (I have to wonder if they didn't subcontract with JIF to make it.)

I will also give an honorable mention to Skippy Honey Roasted Crunchy peanut butter. That's very yummy.

12. Government Surplus
My family was dirt poor when I was in my teens. We got some government surplus food. Often it included peanut butter.

Government surplus peanut butter is the best stuff on earth. It's too cheap to have anything added to it. It separates and has to be stired back together, but it isn't grainy like a lot of the health food store natural peanut butters.

I miss my government surplus peanut butter!

18. Whatever happened to government cheese?
Back in college (in the mid-late 80s) my apartment-mate and I went to the local arsenal where they were handing out government cheese. We each got one of these amazing huge 10 pound bricks (I may be exagerating, but these things were humungous)! We were, like, set for cheese for the next two years. This was the best tasting cheese I've ever had too.

So what happened to all the government surplus cheese? Is there a cheese drought in Wisconsin or something?

31. Gubbmint Cheez....it was SO good!
We got mostly Cheddar, I think Swiss once. It was good stuff, not "Bastardized Process Cheez Food" here, it was REAL cheese.

I miss it, but I don't miss the circumstances that led to me learnijng about "Gubbmint Cheez".

Fuckin' Ronald Reagan, hurry up and die so I can go to Collie-Forn-Nya and piss on your grave!

15. Only Adam's brand...
Eat only 100% NATURAL or Organic. Your colon(ass) will thank
you for it. Adam's is not organic but at least it doesn't have
shelf-life stabilziers in it.

...Tastes more like fresh peanuts!

Actually, I prefer the "all-natural" types of PNB, but Jif strikes me as the best of the mass-marketed standard varieties.

17. JIF is really good, but
I REALLY like Peter Pan whipped. Great spread on a banana!

To make your own peanut butter, put one can of salted peanuts in a blender with one to two teaspoons of oil. Blend until smooth. Can work in a food processor, too.

I use cashews instead of peanuts. Mmmmm!

Just Peanuts. No sugar, no salt, and NO hydrogenated artery cloggers!
And it's the same price as Skippy and the other "Peanut Nougats".
