"The Giant Sucking Sound"`
My 13-year old daughter cracked me up so badly last week that I embarrassed her in Boston Chicken.

I told her that the phrase came from a presidential debate in 1992, when Ross Perot said that if NAFTA were passed, there would be a "giant sucking sound" as American jobs left for Mexico.

She said: "Did he make a sound effect?"

I'm sorry, but the thought of Ross Perot actually making a "giant sucking sound" during a presidential debate had me rolling on the floor. Just had to share.

2. Arrrgh! I remember that debate!
I also remember thinking, "Perot's the only one there who's got any goddam sense on this issue." He was also the only one who mentioned Canada at ALL... I'm a bit biased, but I think I did hear that sucking sound, as a lottabuncha jobs got sucked south, and some of them south again.

3. Think how funny
it would have been if it HADN'T been true. But that's just me, can't find the humor in people losing their livelihoods.

4. I always thought
it would be a great name for a band. Too bad I'm not musically inclined.

5. Too funny
Thanks for sharing that.

Man that race was a riot. Does anyone remember the first vice-presidential debate? The other two went first and then James Stockdale steeped up to mike and said "Who am I? Why am I here?" in this kind of odd voice. It was hilarious because even though he was trying to introduce himself everyone who had followed the campaign was wondering why he was there as well.

It's too bad we don't have a Perot this year. That guy could have gotten 20-30% this election cycle if he hadn't already proved himself a loon. Bush is SO weak right now.
