It's 4:15 AM and I'm eating ice cream . . .
a rather belatedly 'Happy Birthday to Me' kind of thing.

Got my birthday wish - my husband didn't die from his blood transfusion.

He was admitted last evening to be transfused since his hgb had dropped to 5.5 - the dr. told me that 4.5 was death. He had developed a severe antibody from his one and only transfusion in the past and they had a difficult time finding blood for him this time. They had to transfuse him in the hospital since he was at a severe high risk of death from this transfusion.
Seems the worst is over - in respect to the transfusion - but now to work him up to find out why his hgb counts are dropping.

At any rate - some good news is better than none.

3. anyone who is awake due to health issues...
...can have whatever they want.

Some others of us are on a night watch tonight, too. I've been awake for two hours wondering whether or not to go to the ER.

4. is there some kind of synthetic substitute they can use?
I honestly don't know what is done when someone can't be transfused. And I know a fair amount about rudimentary medicine.
