Can you guys please spare some vibes for Mr. Bullwinkle925?

He was admitted to the hospital last night for transfusion. He has been lethargic for a while now, and it was discovered that his hemoglobin had dropped to 5.5. He had developed a severe antibody to blood in the past, so they've had trouble finding blood for him. Bullwinkle was told that he may not survive the transfusion, but he made it through the night okay and is scheduled to have more blood today. They're also doing a guaiac study to determine whether he's losing blood through the GI tract or whether maybe his blood marrow isn't producing RBCs anymore. Hospice has been mentioned, as has the fact that she needs to consider DNR, etc. (although she has informed them of her thoughts on this in the past). They're keeping him in the hospital until Friday so they can figure out what the heck is going on.

I was iron deficient for most of my teen years. Unless you are talking about a different count. I wish him well anyway.

11. Well, I wondered that too

Unfortunately he has been fighting cancer for 10 years now, and I fear his body is just wearing out at last. He's been on a feeding tube for the last 6 years, and as he has developed aspiration pneumonia several times this year requiring hospitalization, he no longer eats or drinks anything, simply relies on his Jevity through the tube.

He's such a fighter. This little guy is just amazing. And he is so kind, considerate and generous. He's not just my brother-in-law; he's my brother. He's been in my life longer than my dad was (about 36 years now as opposed to only almost 21 for my dad, who died in 1983). I HATE THIS!!!!!!!!!

17. If this helps, I was just hospitalized for the same thing.

Twice in the last few weeks, actually. My doctor diagnosed me with anemia, gave me iron pills, but the second week of Sept., I was so weak that my husband took me to the hospital for a transfusion.

I needed to have a second one the next week and another few days of hospitalization.

I'm home now, weak, but doing much, much better and my hemoglobin was lower than his prior to the first transfusion.

I will probably need to have more, and am scheduled to see the surgeon next week for possible exploratory surgery.

Best wishes to your sister and her husband, but there is hope. :hug:
