So... almost getting into a fist fight with a customer.
That's gonna put me at the bottom of the employee of the month list.

Too much adrenaline. Talk to me!

3. Stealing
After a fashion.

I work at a magazine kiosk in a shopping center. Often people will grab a magazine and instead of browsing at the rack will attempt to take it to one of the many restaurants nearby to sit down and read it without paying.

I intercepted a customer doing so and he kinda got pissy about it. Then I kinda lost my cool and instead of defusing things really ramped up the tension. I know I should have handled it better, but I get SO fucking sick of these entitled bastards who think they can do whatever the fuck they want.

The customer is not always right. Sometimes the customer is a fucking douchebag and needs to be put in their place.

So anyway, he got all up in my face and I told him to step back or I was going to knock his teeth out. Then mall security came and took over.

4. Not after a fashion - stealing plain and simple
You have to be a real chickenshit to even think about doing something like that. Good for you. You are employee of the month material in my book.

We have 2 dressing rooms in the clothes store where I work. We block one off (long story) when it's not busy. There's a sign that says "Please use Boutique Dressing Room. Thank you" on it. This woman railed at me about it. "Every time I come here you have this fitting room closed. It makes me SO MAD!" I started to explain & she walked off. I bit my tongue to keep from saying, "Yeah, well, Life's a shit sandwich. Get over it."

13. I call them the "bubble people"
They are only concerned with themselves and a 6-foot radius around them. Anything outside that 6-foot radius is off their radar. Anyone other than them has to foreshorten their world so that they can continue their bubble existence undisturbed.

It's silly though.

What about our right as a small (very small - 3 people) business to pay our rent?

I love the people who justify it by saying, "well, I'm not consuming it! You can still sell it"

Well, then why do people pay to go to the movies? You're not consuming the actual film stock!

something for sale. Buy the motherfucker or move along. Its sale provides income for others. I hate it when assholes do shit like that. And most magazines provide all the info you need on the cover to make a decision whether to buy or not.

14. Well, we encourage people to browse.
I'll often let people stand at the racks and browse for as long as they want.

The problem is that people don't seem to understand the difference between browsing and reading. It seems so simple to me.

HA! Just kidding.

My own experience with working retail for many years has taught me this: the customer is right about five percent of the time. The other 95% they are absolute total fucking dipshits. You did the right thing. I'm convinced the next revolution in this country will be led by underpaid, overworked, and abused retail employees.

31. A true story:
I used to work at a movie theater, and sometimes fights broke out there. It was rare, but it did happen. So, our manager, who happened to be one of the coolest people ever, bought a tazer and put a big sticker on it that said, "THE MANAGER." So when someone asked to see the manager, well, you get the idea. Unfortunately he never got to use it one anyone as he kept it around only for dire emergencies such as someone being really violent. But hey, it would have been fun. There were times when irate customers would demand to see the manager, and they could never figure out why a smile always came across my lips.

LA RETAIL 2: THE MANAGER STRIKES BACK!

33. And what about the customers who let their children run wild?
Most of my run-ins with customers have been because of what they let their children do in our store. One set of parents were upset with me because I suggested their little darling with the red koolaid in a sippee cup should not be bouncing on a white sofa, and another set were upset when I took their preschooler off a swivel tilt office chair they were standing on and jumping -- right next to a glass top coffee table. Oy!

37. I get the drop offs all the time
Parents will just plop their kids in front of the comic book section and just leave to go shop.

Sometimes these kids are as young as 5 years old! WTF are they thinking? It's not like pedophiles ever hang out at shopping malls...

And then they get all mad at me when I call security to come take the children back to their parents!

Let's go through this again...
You ask (nicely!) to see the man's receipt.
If he refuses, then apply the taser directly to his groinal area.

Now please, next time: focus!

Keep in mind: the customer's always right...but sometimes the customer is a right bastard.
:hi:
