Hey Truckers!! I have a question
What are the requirements that you have to take before you can get a CDL in Ohio.

2. Not a trucker but...
I know several, and have gone on runs with them before. In most states it's a lot like getting a regular drivers license, except that you have to show a little more knowledge about vehicle maintenance (how to check your brakes and tire pressure, etc). You also have to pass a written test that covers all of the basics like weight limits, load distribution, stopping time, legal driving limits, etc. The behind the wheel tests are also usually longer (around here, they average an hour).

There are also additional medical and knowledge tests that you have to take if you want to haul people (bus driver) or hazmat.

3. Mostly correct
You also have to pass a physical, the driver's test involves blind side and sight side parallel parking, and a road test. At least mine did. Not sure about Ohio.

4. It depends on what you want to do....
You'll have to take a basic test to prove you know the laws governing commercial drivers.

If the vehicle you want to drive has air-brakes...you will take an air-brake test.

If you will be pulling a trailer...you will take a "combination vehicle" test.

If you expect to haul hazardous materials...you will take a haz-mat test.

If you will be pulling more than one trailer you will take a "doubles/triples" test.

You'll have to get a "DOT physical"

You'll have to pass a driving test that includes several backing maneuvers.

You'll have to do a "pre-trip inspection"....walk around the truck and inspect it for safety.

6. No, I'm not from Ohio...
...but I drove out of Indiana and many of my loads took me through Ohio.

The CDL requirements are pretty much the same in every state...the difference being some states allow 3rd party testing and some insist on testing by the state police or DOT.

Sorry, can't help you find "Droopy Man".
