4. Yes yes yes yes yes
Excellent stuff. There are a lot of good French astropop bands like Air. My suggestion would be to go a local indie music shop and ask someone there.

7. Yeah, if you like Air, Broadcast and Stereolab are also good.
That, and Air's patron saint, Serge Gainsbourg, of course.

9. S-T-E-R-E-O-L-A-B
Essential!

Also, if you like Talkie Walkie, definitely check out their earlier releases like Moon Safari and Premiers Symptomes.

14. Julee Cruise
Air's soundtrack for "The Virgin Suicides" is my favorite of theirs, but I'm biased because I love that movie/book. I'm probably in the minority among Air fans.

Julee Cruise's CD, which I think is called "Rockin' back into your heart" (at least that is the single from it) is another atmospheric, dreamlike sound. I have no idea if she's even still recording. She did a lotta soundtrack stuff for David Lynch movies way back when.

15. When I think of Air
I think also of Daft Punk. Also try Baby Fox, "A Normal Family."

Compilations to try would be Freedom Satellite, "Soul Samba," and
any of the Hotel Costes disks, I like #3.

I saw Air live once in a converted church in Pontiac, MI. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of place! I was trying to be cool, slipped on the beer soaked floor, and almost did the splits. So much for trying to be cool!

16. Oh yeah! Aqualung!
And NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I don't mean the creepy prog band Jethro Tull. Aqualung is a Brit band with a similar feel, and one truly classic single, "I put a spell on you."

18. I saw Air in DC a couple of years ago
at the 9:30. Really good band. "Premiers Symptomes" is a really great album. I think Stereolab is pretty good, but Air takes the cake as far as the Franco-phile spacey rock goes. You may also want to check out Cornelius ( a Japanese cartoon rocker) and Tipsy. I really can't say enough about Tipsy. Formed around two producer/DJ's, Tipsy is a throwback to the 50's space-age bachelor pad music, like Esquivel. They have two CD's out now: "Trip Tease" and "Uh-Oh."
