Christie Todd Whitman was the guest. Jon asked her about the Bush administration's environmental policies and she said, with a straight face, that Bush was "good on environmental issues". Some in the audience actually hissed when she said that.

That Christie...who knew she was a comedian? :-)

1. Whitman was the speaker at my graduation last June...
... shortly after she "resigned" as the head of the EPA. She kept mentioning our "4 years" of hard work, when the school I went to is a 5 year school. If you're going to get an honorary doctorate from a university, I think you could at least take the time to learn a little bit beyond the school's name. It didn't make a good impression on me.

I saw her interview on the Daily Show. She is definitely a team player.

On the plus side, Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys sung a song at my graduation. That was interesting; he looked all med-ed up.

2. I thought it took a while
for TDS to find its tone after Kilborn left. There is a part of me that still misses Craig's spot-on anchorman delivery of the headlines (he does the same thing on a segment of his own horrible show now, but the jokes aren't a third as funny or biting as TDS), and initially, though I was a big fan of Jonny S., I hated his delivery. It was just too much hand-on-the-mouth-ain't-I-a-stinker, too self-congratulatory. Then during the last Presidential campaign, TDS just found their voice and were on fire! They've remained very spot-on ever since.

My own minor gripe is that Comedy Central must not pay the correspondents anything! I sooooooo miss Brian Unger's razor sharp delivery, Beth Littlefield's mixture of brains and hottie-ness, Vance Degeneres psuedo-Dan Rather off-kilterness. It looks like Carell is inching towards the door now as well.

Oh, and now that Kilborn has been history for ages, why hasn't Liz Winstead ever returned? Guess the fall-out really was that bad.
