Sigur Ros / Godspeed You Black Emporer.....any fans?

I've been listening to both groups quite a bit lately. I had been skeptical of both to begin with since it took me a while to have the time and patience to sit down with some of their respective albums. But now that I have I'm sold. Totally dramatic, orchestral, but without as much pretentiousness as I had expected. Some very moving stuff.

Although when I listen to Sigur Ros I'm reminded of that Simpsons episode where Bart is getting ready to go into church and hears the voice of an angel he is sure must be a beautiful girl, only to walk in and see that it's Ned Flanders.

1. Yes to both of them

Enjoy their work completely.

It does come somewhat under what Laurie Anderson called "difficult listening music".

It isn't background music but rather commnds attention to be fully enjoyed and a lot of people do';t want to have to listen that hard.

have yet to see Sigur Ros live, but I did see Godspeed! back in April. One of the best shows ever.

5. Sigur Ros

My buddy and next door neighhor, John W (currently teaching in Jinan, China) made a Sigur Ros tape for a past FUNDAY party. It's good stuff and I'd never have heard it otherwise (I'm 46 and still think ELO is cool).

However, I must confess that I use Sigur Ros second effort (()) as a beer coaster.

It's a much more cohesive and polished effort I think. To each his/her own though.
