I'm flying to London and back in a few weeks
Please tell me everything's going to be ok. I don't want airlines taking any chances, but at the same time I don't want my flight to be cancelled either.

but still -

:scared:

We are safer now more then we have ever been in the past and it's not because of Bush doing something good it's because of what he has done bad against the World.

Don't worry you will be alright.

6. Several years ago I
spent three days in a hotel located right across from the St Louis airport, and I spent several hours each day just watching plane after plane land or take off (depending on which direction they were using for t/o & landing). I had already known how safe flying was, have never been afraid to fly, and had even worked in the main terminal of National Airport in Washington DC where I spent my shift watching airplanes take off and land.

But this extended time of just watching them one after another after another impressed on me as nothing else ever had how very routine most flying is, how remarkably safe, and how rarely airplanes crash. And this was just one not so terribly busy airport.

Yeah, your plane might go down, but the chances of being in a car crash to or from the airport is vastly greater. Nothing in life is perfectly safe. We all take chances at times, sometimes not even realizing we're doing it. It's just that airplane crashes are so spectacular and suck up so much news.

If weekly total car crash deaths were headlined we'd never get in our cars again.

10. Take a plane! North Atlantic is cold this time of year.
Seriously, soleft, I don't believe the next terror attack -- and I am convinced there will be one the way * is creating enemies worldwide -- will be an entirely different method than passenger planes. I know that you live close to Ground Zero and so this issue resonates especially strongly for you.

Have a great trip.

11. Thanks
:hi:

It's just when you hear of flights being cancelled that are flying the same route you're flying.....and I can't even mention the news reports to my girlfriend or she'll really panic.

12. In my more cynical moments....
...(and this is one of them) I think that the cancelled flights are like color changes in the terra 'lert system -- designed to keep the public scared spitless all the time. Sort of a variation on the theme. Plus, numbnuts has been getting a lot of bad press recently over David Kay's resignation -- they want to take the focus off the lies re WMD.

:hi:

I've been to London in March and there usually are many signs of spring -- especially daffodils and tulips in windowboxes. Beautiful city, even at this time of year (though England has been cold) and you don't have to share it with all the summer visitors.
