Poll question: Begging the library to buy books so you don't have to |
|
The Seattle Public Library allows patrons to submit purchase requests for items they do not currently have. i really want to read a book by one of my former law professors, but i don't necessarily want to own it. should i feel bad about asking the library to do my dirty work for me?

1. I don't know, but this is the reason I don't feel bad about paying library fines. |

It's one of the least painful "punishments."

i have never in my life run out at 11:30 pm to return a library book that was due that day. can't say the same about the video store.

Writers need to take care of their families too. :)

4. the author is a law professor making $96k a year |
|
she's not hurting for the scratch. and besides, it's not like the library would steal it to add it to the catalog.

5. I agree. Law texts are overpriced anyway. |
|
Updated every year to change two cases or to add a $30 supplement to an already $100 book.
If the library can get the book, there's nothing wrong with making the request. There may be someone else that needs the book.

6. Understand your point about her having enough cash~ |
|
 I wasn't thinking that the library was going to steal it. ;)
Just that the writer's sales volume goes up if a group of people by their own copies verses one copy sold to a single library.
But libraries are a good thing, not meaning to imply differently. Sorry I guess I am just too tired today and not making sense.

7. How else would the library know what to buy? |
|
They'll be given a budget each year to spend on new books - if you don't tell them what you'd like to read, then the poor librarian will have to second guess everybody who walks through the door.
