A few years ago there were some attempts to get a NFL franchise for Toronto, but it never panned out. So the CFL (Canadian Footbal League) remains the only game in town for now. However Buffalo NY is only an hour and a half drive from Toronto, so they get quite a few Canadians coming across the border to watch the NFL games in Buffalo.
The local CFL team, the Toronto Argonauts, have been having some problesm with poor attendance and their gate receipts have not been very good. They really seem to be struggling to maintain their fan base, and everyone says it's because the Torontonians want the NFL, not the minor league CFL. In other cities in Canada apparently the CFL is doing better, but because Toronto and Ontario are such big markets, for the league to be successful it really needs to have a successful CFL franchise in Toronto.
Don't know which team Canadians favored for the Superbowl. In my last job the Superbowl was always the topic of much discussion by the sports fans in the office. I am not really into sports very much myself, so I generally don't really care very much who wins the Superbowl.
