http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/business/7849191.htmSo far, Microsoft will be using 3--3!!!--of the same type of processor found in the current Power Mac G5 (actually the next revision, you can find the exact chips in the new Xserves) :wow: ONE G5 chip is blazing fast, 2 will give you a monster, but 3?!
http://www.apple.com/xserve/The Xserve G5 will perform 9 Gigaflops--9 BILLION operations a secon--with 2 G5s. But #?!!! About 14 BILLION/sec? :wow:
The ATi graphics card being developed for Xbox Next (I know, I know, unsual name) will have a chip faster that the R400 about to come out that will allow Xbox Next games to be processed in FULL HDTV, anti aliasing quality :bounce: Either 256 or 512 MB of DR RAM--much like what you'l find on the stud gaming PCs today. The ability to play original Xbox games or having a hard drive are still up in the air, although Microsoft is leaving the door for both.
M$ has more money than God, so adding a bigger hard drive won't hurt that stockpile of $53 BILLIon they have up in Redmond. Then again, I'm alsmot sure that a newer DVD drive will be included--I've read in some HDTV Magazine that there's something called HD-DVD based on Windows Media being tested. With so much hardware firepower, I don't think the current Xbox games will even NEED to be played on Xbox Next--why?
Oh, and Power mac G5s ARE being used as the alpha dev kits in Redmond--Steve Jobs must love that!
ne last thing I read this weeknedn--apparently Sony has "informed" its game developers that"you haven't really tapped into the PS2's graphics power..."but isn't really lifting a finger to show anyone HOW. Now their PS3 is scheduled for 2006 (Xbox Next 2005), and so far developers are saying they can't begin to figure out the PS3. Real nice Sony :eyes:
