Right-Wing Musicians?
Let's list 'em. The ones I know are Tobey Keith, Charlie Daniels, Ted Nugent, and Britney Spears (if you call her a musician).

2. How could you forget...

Lee "God Bless The U.S.A." Greenwood?

James Brown (Remember his 1972 endorsement of Nixon?)
Crystal Gayle (Vocally supported Bush the Elder in 1988)
Loretta Lynn (See above)
Ricky Martin (Performed at Bush's inaugural)
Young M.C. (Rapper with a degree in Economics. Went top ten with the lame-ass "Bust A Move" in 1989.)

I'm sure I'll think of more later!

29. Hmmmm...let's see:
Lee Greenwood: career dead, except perhaps in Branson.
James Brown: hasn't recorded anything new in decades?
Crystal Gayle: see above.
Loretta Lynn: I love you, Loretta, but you haven't done anything new in years either.
Ricky Martin: Haven't heard him on the radio in many moons... career missing and presumed dead.
Young MC: One hit wonder, career dead ...

Notice a pattern?

10. Ted Nugget is the worst
We went to a concert of his last year and got "escorted" out by a few of his goons...er bodyguards. My wife was manhandled and I didn't like it and said something to the goons about it. Then they tried to break bad with me and I just said "Honey, lets go. We wasted our 18 bucks on this chickenhawk bastard". One of the goons told me I'd pay for that remark. I was sorely tempted to violence but my wife talked me out of it. From that point on, I refused to listen to Nugget on the radio or anywhere else.

And Sam and Dave performed at the '92 Republican convention.

But I'm not sure if that makes them Right-Wing or just performers willing to play a gig.

44. B.B. King?
I strongly doubt B.B. King would be a right winger, since he fought in WWII and witnessed first hand racism directed at him by the other (white) soldiers and he witnessed a lynching when he was a child.

B.B. King plays over 200 gigs a year. He's been playing for over 50 years, which I would guess would give him a lot of time to meet all kinds of performers.

14. I have to brag..
Years ago when I lived in Jacksonville, Florida (BARF!)...(and was in a band)
The local Republican National Committee called up the spokesman for the group and asked us to play for a fund-raiser.
After all of us talked about it, we decided that the $900.00 wasn't worth selling our soul for...(we were all Libs)

I've always been proud of those guys for turning down that job.

15. Most musicians are not right-wing
I play in a band (fiddle in a Celtic group) and I don't know of any musicians up here in Maine who aren't liberals. I talked to a well-known New Hampshire musician who said the same thing about his musician friends. (This guy was invited to perform in the Bush White House and he refused!) Rightwing conservatism just seems to represent the opposite of the very personality traits that lead to the most talented of artists and musicians. Artists (and I consider musicians in this group) are accustomed to exploring beyond the limits of what is considered "standard form". If they're at all creative, they see beyond black and white, and seek out every shade of gray. Which means they will most likely not be rightwingers.

16. From "The New Book of Rock Lists"

This book came out in 1994, so the following list could obviously stand some updating. But here's what co-authors Dave Marsh and James Bernard came up with for their "Right-Wingers" list nine years ago:

Lee Atwater
Richard Branson (Virgin Records)
James Brown
Belinda Carlisle (by marriage)
Ray Charles
Eric Clapton (on occasion)
Bob Dylan (sometimes)
Eazy-E
Ahmet Ertegun (Atlantic Records)
Sammy Hagar
Charles Koppelman (SBK/Capitol-EMI Records)
Stan Lee (Dickies)
Mike Love (Beach Boys)
Keith Morris (Circle Jerks)
Ted Nugent
Elvis Presley
Prince (in his Reagan period)
Skrewdriver
Neil Young (in his Reagan period)
Young M.C.

Allow me to elaborate:

1. When Young M.C. was nominated for a Grammy, he was the only nominee in the Rap category to show up wearing a tuxedo. The others all attended wearing their "colors."

2. Young M.C. wrote and performed a rap song about "family values" at the 1992 GOP Convention.

46. I thought about it
and decided that I really don't care. I vote for left-leaning candidates, and listen to music that I like, regardless of the musician's party affiliation. After all, I'm not voting musicians into office. I suppose that's where I draw the line when considering what I'll support. I support good musicians and I support liberal politicians, and never the 'twain shall meet.

For example: Just because I think Chuck Heston is a dumbass because of his political leanings and views; that doesn't mean that I won't stop clicking channels on a Sunday morning when I see that Planet of the Apes is on. Additionally, I freakin' LOVE the Ramones (seen 'em in concert several times). I don't care WHO they vote for. They rock. RIP, Joey.

So I believe her inclusion on this list was an attempt to come up with one more reason not to like her.
