I need directions PLEASE!

I have finally gotten my '84 VW Westy road worthy once more and I am itchin' for a road trip. What I would like to do is find a quiet camping place in S/SW Wisconsin (or in the general vicinity) with a nice trout brook/stream/creek/river/water....could any of my fellow DUers tell me of such a paradise? This will be my first camping expedition since leaving Colorado last summer so I hope to find the "perfect" spot. Thanks in advance.

1. A few nice spots along the Mighty Mississippi

in Southern Wisconsin. I can't think of the names of any of them now, but a few years ago we went rock climbing(well we hiked up cliffs) at a park near LaCrosse. Maybe it would be on Wisconsin state web site or LaCrosse area site. Have fun!

I live about 2 miles from the Mississippi and I DO love it; however, from my experience, trout don't live in it......hell, not much of anything does anymore. I do appreciate the response.....jenn

3. Try this one.

Lake Geneva is always lovely, and from what I remember from trips as a child, my brothers always found great little hideaway spots to fish.

4. Why south or SW WI?

Come north. Trout streams, canoeing, state & federal forests, parks, etc. everywhere. Try the Brule or the Namekagon for trout.

not as many touristas. Bald eagles and bigger fish, the people are wonderful too!

5. Cross the Mississippi at Prairie du Chein into Iowa

and go south about 5 or 6 miles to the Sny-McGill state ground. Primitive camping and a trout stream included.

And in response to those in favor that I go futher north, that will come later. After 27 years in the beauty of Colorado, I am just now starting my exploration of the upper-midwest and prefer to stay within 5 - 6 hours of my "homebase" in the QC area in Illinois, until I get acclimated......I even turned down an invitation to the Boundary Waters with my brother, who is going up there in two weeks. I know.......I KNOW :silly:

But HEY, we could all meet in the remotest camp spot at Sny-McGill, I'll provide the trout :party:

10. Govenor Dodge State Park near Dodgeville

a little west of Madison.
It has some great hikes, a couple of lakes, and camping.
Although it's fairly popular, so I don't know how quiet it would be.
