Tried to cash a check at Wells Fargo.. they did not have enough money..
I had to make an appointment to cash it on Thursday.. It's a lousy 15,000.00 check. It's not like I wanted to cash a 200,000.00 check or something..

sheeez..

It's a l;ife insurance check from when my Mom passed away.. American Express finally bugged me enough to file for it.. She passed away in Sept of 02..

but hey I made almost $700 in interest.. I should have just left the money with them.. no one else is paying 4% anymore :(..

1. That would be the Wells Fargo that just announced huge layoffs?
Ruh-roh, Rorge... :scared:

But don't worry, Bush* says the economy's doing great, and you KNOW he wouldn't say that if it weren't true! </sarcasm>

2. Wells Fargo always holds BIG checks a few days before cashing
including cashier's checks.

3. Do you really want it all in cash?
Perhaps that is a personal question.
If you want to transfer most of it to another bank, they can write you a check.
They should be able to have your cash the next business day though. I have seen big pay outs at banks with promises to have the rest within a few hours.

4. I wish my biggest problem today was that the bank didn't have...
enough money to cash my check.

5. No One Has Enough Money Anymore
Unless you fill out the forms and have BushCo decide you're not going to invest the money in C-4.

8. When you do cash it, please give us an update.
On which briefcase you use. I would be scared shitless even if I had a briefcase with a built-in combination lock on it as I assume you must have. A metal one might be safer, but leather is less conspicuous, IMO.

10. Just out of curiosity,
why not take it to your bank and deposit it?

I should think $15K in cash would be rather...intimidating.

14. You can write a personal check to cover the
cost of a car. One of my friends wrote a check for $18,900 to buy a new car at the beginning of January. They took the check and gave him the keys. Of course he is 54 years old so that may have something to do with them trusting that he had $18k in the bank.
Your son doesn't need greenbacks to pay cash for a car.
Also, if you are trying to avoid the PATRIOT Act, I think any transaction over $10k requires a lot of bookkeeping.

15. I already went throough that with the other check
I cashed the inheritance check a while back.. All I had to do, was sign the log book and show them my various IDs..

I have to do that every year for my bowling leagues.. Between both leagues, I have to withdraw between 75 & 100K every May.. The money belongs to about 280 people in varying amounts..

Big cash doesn't bother me..

He is looking to buy a vehicle from an individual, and we will be using some for some concrete work and an outbuilding.. It won't hang around long ..:( I wish it had one more zero :)

16. You are right, though it's not because of Patriot
All transactions of more than $10K have required filing a report for many, many years, long before Patriot, and that's been whether that transaction is done with cash, check, wire transfer, or anything.

17. When I paid cash for a car
I found the dealership much less ready to deal. They make their money on the financing.

This dealership in a small town also let me write a postdated personal check and take the car home before I had all the money together (had to liquidate some other assets and wait a few days for the cash).
