Remember the Alamo On PBS tonight
In the early 1830s Texas was about to explode. Although ruled by
Mexico, the region was home to more than 20,000 U.S. settlers
agitated by what they saw as restrictive Mexican policies. Mexican
officials, concerned with illegal trading and immigration, were
prepared to fight hard to keep the province under their control.
Caught in the middle were the area's 4,000 Mexican Texans or
Tejanos.

2. One policy the Mexicans objected to was the keeping of slaves by Texans
coming from the US.Most didn't;they were poor and looking for land they could settle on.

3. That was a fascinating show. Very different from the normal story told.
A true, balanced look at how Texas came to be. Amazing how much they packed into a one-hour show and still managed to tell a fascinating, gripping story.

As usual, 'American Experience' on PBS proves itself just about the best thing on TV anytime, anywhere.

4. agreed
How amazing is the crap that Hollywood has provided over the years? The story PBS tells is quite different from conventional "knowledge" about the event... A fine example of how oppinions can be shaped by campaigns of miss- information. (IE white house lies).
