I think he took too much insulin. I've been stuffing him with sugars to get his blood sugar level up.

do you have to stay up and monitor?
That sounds kinda scary.
Reminds me of the time my son was a toddler and really cracked his head. We had to wake him up every hour until midnight and then every two hours after that. No sleep that night!

You might want to get the paramedics out there, just to be safe...
Yikes! :scared:

8. I just sent him up to bed |
|
He's back to normal now and should be fine. I'll check him again before I go to bed. If the level stays up, we will be ok. Thanks, CaliforniaPeggy.

7. I've been checking his blood every half hour |
|
I think we are ok now. The last test was a little high. He's on a time release insulin, so I'm not worried about that. I just need to make sure it doesn't go back down. Thanks, all.

10. A long acting insulin? |
|
I'd check sugars every hour or two for awhile. Any 24 hour pharmacies open? Call a pharmacist to be sure. They can give you peak and duration.

He does take a long lasting insulin, but I think he may have mixed it up with his fast acting stuff. I'll know the next time I do a blood test. The next test should be be down a little. Hold on to that hug, he's going to be a bear when I wake him.

15. Hi CMD. I wanted to pipe in here |
|
I'm a new RN. Ten months on the job! Mixing up insulin and dosage is one reason why we (RN's) always have a second RN check before we give it. We don't do that with too many medications. Maybe you and your husband can double check - at least when you're both there? Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there.

13. Do you have one that will keep me out of the kitchen? |
|
I just want to go clean out the refrigerator right now - and I don't mean throw the stuff away.

late night munchies are the worst - especially because eating so late for me usually results in heartburn. I have found a glass of milk helps.
I also have 4 pets...getting up off my keister means disturbing them - and seriously there is nothing worse than the death look from furry kids
