Wait till you get into graduate school , then your brain is mince meat.

Then comes the Qualifying exams , then the Candidacy , all fun.

Not to mention that piece of cake called "tenure track"


My Advice , unless you love your area of interest and willing to be a slave for its sake , RUN away from Grad school right now, run !

Unless your area is in the humanities rather than the Sciences , you guys have it easy (only joking!)

and did okay. I earned my Master's in 2006 but now my scores are expiring. The Assoc. Dean at one of the schools I'm applying to strongly suggested I refresh my scores.

Considering that the GRE is a predictor of how well you might do in graduate school.

But you already have a Master's, so you KNOW how well you can do in graduate school.

Seems to me the Master's should trump GRE.

enough for a Ph.D. , it varies from school to school , and I think its a nutty policy.

They should do away with it and keep only the subject tests.

And because mine are expiring this month (as they do after five years) I will need to retake the exam to bring them up to date.

with my inability to do anything even remotely math related would have surely kept me from getting accepted into my program

31. My advice: get a GRE prep book and study it. It will improve your score.

Especially the math section.
The notion that studying won't help is a myth.

The most important thing is to familiarize yourself with the test format. Learn to spot the traps.

Proper GRE prep is a lot of "teaching to the test", which tells you that the GRE doesn't really measure who is the best student, it measures who is good at taking the GRE. For me, it helped to think of it as a game.

Other than that, studying vocabulary, doing analogies, and refreshing your math skills is valuable to everyday life. 11 years later, I'm still enriched from the vocabulary I studied.

26. I know that feeling

Took the GMAT a year ago, the Praxis I, II, pedagogy, and content area teacher tests before that, the LAST (not a typo) and ATS-W before that....yeah, mushiness is the only way to describe what happened to my brain after each of those.

I just finished up 3 hours of running regression analysis by hand, and I'm feeling very similar to braindead now, as well.

Hope they went well, and good luck getting into the doctorate program.
