I have to go to a wedding reception today. For a friend of mine I was insanely attracted to.
She met her now-husband like two weeks after I first met her, about the time I was getting up the nerve to ask her out. (I didn't, because she mentioned she had a boyfriend in casual conversation before I said anything) I was hoping they'd break up. Obviously, they didn't.

*sigh* I know I should be happy for her, but it's been like knives in the back ever since she announced she was engaged. And pregnant with his kid. After only a year and a half in the relationship.

Worst part? I'm going to have to stay stone sober through the whole thing, or risk blurting out something I really don't need to blurt out.

When I get done, I'm gonna go find somewhere that doesn't check ID and drink myself fucking blind. Thank fucking God I'm moving out of this fucking state after graduation -- if I had to deal with my nose getting rubbed in it for God knows how long, I'd probably shoot myself. It's gonna be a long damned year and a half until graduation, though.

2. You'll get used to it
Almost every wedding reception I go to is for someone I'm attracted to.

Hell, half of them are for people I've slept with.

4. Your nose rubbed in it?
Doesn't sound like anyone is doing that - just that things didn't go the way you hoped they would.

That can hurt, certainly, but you don't have any idea if things would have worked out for you if you had dated. Put it in perspective - you never dated her, she's happy, what you're mourning is a "might have been" not a "once was."

And although I realize that's painful, it is essentially a fantasy. Sorry if that sounds unsympathetic - I don't mean to.

5. Well...if she wasn't pregnant you could have done one of the....
...classsic movie scenes:

"If anybody has any reason for me to not bless this couple, Please speak out now"
"Suddenly the Church Doors swing open...seawolf is standing in the doorway, silhouetted by the bright Sunlight"
"Stop..Please..cries Seawolf...I've loved you since the first moment I saw you...my heart is bleeding tears for never shouting my deep love for Your precious soul !!"
The Bride backs away from the preacher, turns toward the church doors and shouts...My Love..My true, true love, Seawolf...How I have longed for the declaration of your love...I only was going to marry this creep because my heart was blind and Etc..Etc...

BUT..She Pregnant...oh well... :)

6. Hook up with a bridesmaid
Or, really anyone. It's a wedding. Drinking yourself blind doesn't help, and it makes it hard to find the toilet to throw up into.

7. Make your excuses at the earliest opportunity and leave.
Stay just as long as you have to to discharge your duty as a friend. Then get the fuck out of there.

8. My dear seawolf...
My condolences, and I mean it...

I feel your pain, and it has to be awful...

It is never easy to lose your dream, and this is what's happening here today...

Take care of yourself...

9. Wow, I don't think I could even go unless I could drink.
I wish I had something constructive to say about this situation, but I don't. I had a friend in high school who I was totally in love with, but she wound up with this really controlling, much older guy who wouldn't let her talk to anyone, and I lost contact with her. For all I know they're probably married with a kid (she's 22 now, and he's gotta be pushing 30).

You might discover how lucky you are this other guy is marrying her!
