Things to Say When You Didn't Hear What Somebody Said

My hearing aint as good as it used to be &
a lot of what people say aint worth hearing to
start with, much less asking them to repeat it,
so you need to have a few all-purpose
sayings handy when you have no idea what the
other guy said. They might look at you a little
weird if it doesnt fit the situation perfectly,
but usually it seems to satisfy. Like, for instance...

Sometimes I ask, but usually, who cares?
Sometimes they repeat it & I still can't
hear or understand. Or else it doesnt nake
sense anyway. A lot of times people say
things that just dont make any sense. Som I
say something like, "Now I heard everything."
And a funny look comes over their face as they
try to fit it in to what they said. Course it
doesnt work is they ASKED you something. Like if
your neighbor asks you if he can borrow a
wrench, and you don't know what the hell he
said and you say "Boy, you can say that again."

There are few things more embarassing than being "busted" for not having been paying attention to what someone was saying when they were talking to you.

8. Right, like when theyre spilling some big emotional thing

and theyre all getting trusting & shit &
it's real important to them & your mind
kind of wanders off on its own for a while
and youre nodding or going "Yeah" on the phone
but your not listening and nothing's registering
but your own self-centered musings and then
all of a sudden you hear: "So what do you
think I should do?" Huh? "Uh, well it depends."
