1. I can't help but think that drinking on the job will always be good for...
the person who is drinking...however the quality of work would no doubt decline which is a bad thing if you were a...I donno brain surgeon

2. When I worked at Wal-Mart, that was the only way to get through the day...
When I was working in a plastics factory, that was the easiest way to lose your fingers.

3. It made one job more tolerable.
But by the time the job had deteriorated to that point - where I had to drink to get through the day there - I knew I wouldn't be at the job much longer. But it's relatively easy to hide Guinness in a coffee mug.

4. As much as I enjoy a beer, I have to say "worse".
I've seen and heard too many alcoholics who ruined concerts as a result of drinking.

6. well i would say
that the only jobs i had where i drank at work were when i was very young

then i quit drinking

so it would not benefit me to drink at work :P

sometimes I think, "damn, this is insane (it is truly) I need a drink", but I don't need one, and I haven't had to take one for over 22 years anywhere. That isn't a condemnation of drinking or people who drink.

I am only speaking about what my experience has been.

:hi:

7. Wasn't that long ago that the breweries in Milwaukee had a tap in the lunch room
I know of 2 Milwaukee breweries (at least), I'll call Blitz and Biller, where beer on tap was served up on breaks. I'm assuming OSHA had a hand in putting a stop to this practice so it's no longer the case, employees now receive a monthly allowance of beer to take home. Father of a dear friend died at the very young age of 52 after nearly 30 years on the job at the brewery -- cause of death chronic exposure to toxic combination of beer and tylenol. Moral of the story? Believe the back of the tylenol bottle when it says not to take it if you drink alcohol. Also? chronic excessive alcohol intake is probably not a good idea either. All that being said, when I was a young-un and worked for the post office we would spend our lunch break getting blotto at the corner bar. That's why your mail is always screwed up. But it DID make the job a hell of a lot more tolerable.
