What were the best and worst days of 2007 for you?
For me, the best was a tie between July 4, which was spent on a beachfront campground in Baja California, setting off $500 worth of fireworks, drinking shots of a tequila so smooth you can't even taste it, and raising hell amidst about 300 other campers/partiers - and Thanksgiving Day, which I entirely spent playing with 3 nephews/niece and 7 dogs.

Worst was May 19, when I was burglarized and caught the MFers in the act. Even 6 months later, every time I hear any sound I jump up out of bed and look towards the garage.

1. So far the best was any of the days in October
that I spent with my kid in Disney World.

The worst was shortly after we came back, when my kitty Link died. :-(

6. It is tough...
It's not something you get used to over the years.

I'm sorry to hear that your home was burglarized. That happened to us once, when we were all here. The crook got into our basement and took a bunch of tools and a professional quality microscope we'd gotten for our kids. We felt so violated. It wasn't long after that we got a dog, who was very vocal when people came near the house.

I mentioned the burglary to a neighbor a few days after it happened; and he asked what had been taken. When I told him, he said, "Y'know...I think your stuff might be under our porch." Apparently a friend of his, who was homeless and suffered from substance abuse issues, had asked our neighbor if he could store some things there. The tools were highly suspect; but the microscope was a dead giveaway that his friend had been thieving.

3. 2007.
The worst day? The day that confirmed my husband was having an affair.

The best day? Was in May. Can I leave it at that?

Worst day -When my mother passed away in May. I am still incredibly heartbroken by her death and this Christmas will be very hard

Best day -When our centre-left opposition party won parliamentary elections on November 24 and ended the decade-long reign of our right wing, neo-conservative, Bush-loving government

15. Best: Somewhere between May 1st and 14th, when I was learning about abstract expressionism.
That was fun. Plus, the weather was nice, I felt emotionally stable and there were no unpleasant personal or financial surprises.

Worst: October 3rd. I had a nasty shock in therapy. Still haven't recovered (and probably won't) from the information I learned about myself that day.

17. Worst 2/24/07
The day I moved out of the apartment I shared w/ my grown son. I was glad that I was standing up for myself--he had been treating me poorly for quite some time--but when I left, the leeches moved in a messed him up big time.

Best.... well, the day after thanksgiving was lovely. My sister went bowling for the first time in 2 years (after a horrific accident where she nearly lost her foot and part of her leg) and I was there to see it!

21. Best: June 27th, 2007
The day we adopted our gorgeous and wonderful baby girl.

Another best, end of January, closing on a new house.

Another best, my wife getting a great new job.

It's been a very good year for us.

22. One bad day, a couple of good days
Worst day was probably the day I lost my job at my former employer. In retrospect, the place I worked at stunk to high heavens and was as poorly managed an employer as you can think, but losing your job is never fun no matter what the circumstances.

Best days? A couple. Getting a raise at my new job after winning a big motion and helping settle a big case. Spending the day visiting my friends and going to the Orioles game. Spending a day with my family at Ichetucknee Springs. And last but not least, finding out I'm going to be a dad. And then telling my parents that they are going to be grandparents.

Hopefully, Christmas Eve this year will be equally as satisfying. It will be the first Christmas Eve I've celebrated with my parents in four years, and my mom's traditional Christmas Eve dinners are always the best. It will be a little bittersweet though, as it will likely be the last Christmas Eve we celebrate in my old childhood house (as my parents are looking to move soon).

Best day of 2008 is going to happen in early January when my little girl comes into the world. Can't wait.

27. There have been a lot of bad days in 2007 for me...
but also a lot of good days, so I guess I can't complain.

I think the worst by far, though, was February 15. :( That was the day I found out that one of my friends from high school had been killed in Iraq (he was actually killed on Valentine's Day, but I didn't find out about it until my little brother IMed me around noon the next day to tell me the news). That was a real blow to me (and to everyone who knew him, really) - he was such a great guy, and only nineteen years old. :( I remember it was cold and bright outside, and I went for a walk and thought that it shouldn't be that pretty outside without Danny in the world. Ironically, that was also the day that there was a war protest on campus - people had been camping out in the middle of campus and I think there were shoes lined up along the paths for the people that had been killed, and I was going to go and talk to them (somebody, anybody) to tell them about my friend, but by the time I got there they had gone. :( I remember wanting to get very, very drunk on the cheapest, nastiest vodka or whiskey I could find (but I didn't, thank goodness), and I remember spending most of that day alternately in a daze & feeling numb, crying, or being mad as hell - sometimes all three.

Other bad days:
- my 21st birthday, which was spent with a stomach virus so I didn't get to have any fun :(
- the day my mom was diagnosed with thyroid cancer
- the day we realized that my little brother had lied to us and broken our trust about something very important
- the day the doctors found a mass the size of a softball inside my mom's abdomen (hadn't she been through enough this year?)
- November 4 - the day I was getting ready to go back to school after a weekend at home, and we got a call from my aunt saying my grandmother had died that morning. :(

But like I said, there were some good days, too:
- the day my parents came down to visit me after I had recovered from the virus, and took me out to a late birthday lunch and just spent time together
- the day my mom was finished with radioactive iodine treatment (several months after the initial thyroid removal surgery), and the doctors said it looked like all the cancer was gone and it hadn't spread anywhere else :)
- the day a few weeks ago after my mom successfully underwent surgery to remove the mass from her abdomen, and the pathology reports came back benign :) (she's at home recovering now)
- and many, many others. All in all, I'll be glad to see 2007 off, but I realize I have been very blessed, under the circumstances. It could've been a lot worse, and I'm VERY thankful that it wasn't. :hi:
